Cobra Kai, Karate Kid Questions

Hey guys,

I met a group of costumers at Dragon Con this year with awesome Cobra Kai outfits.

Actually there were 2 groups, but I am looking for the group that had the smaller more movie accurate patches. Not Jedireject's group.

Please if you could contact me with any info you guys might have as to the resources of your costumes construction and patches. I would be most appreciative.

Also if anyone has information pertaining to the screen used props, patches, and costumes feel free to share that as well. I am looking to put together a costume that would be as screen accurate as possible. Also looking for information on the original Daniel headband, and if there are Miyagi do patches out there as well.

IIRC, the screen used Cobra Kai uniforms were not an off the shelf item and were actually a brushed cotton fabric that was a very dark brown color. Please again if anyone has more information to share I would be most appreciative.

The cobra Kai uniforms were, as far as I know, a customized off the shelf uniform at the time. The uniforms were made by Century martial arts supplies. You can see the Century tag on the uniforms even on screen. The collar was customized with that flare around the neck, and of course the gold piping. The particular shade of the uniform itself is tough to find today. I haven't seen it since the 80s. You're right about it not being a plain black. I have some really close up photos of the originals and you can see hints of gray, and brown. That color was only ever used for the original movie. You'll notice that in KK 3, the Cobra uniform is much darker black than the originals were.

Century makes a version of this style of uniform that you can order off their website. It has the right cut to it and sports the cut-off sleeves. However it doesn't have the enlarged collar. But, it would make good, solid raw material.

The Cobra Kai patch also has a lot of texture to it when you see it up close...different shades of gold and yellow. Really cool. I've got some really nice pics of it.

I've wanted one of these for years. About five years ago Johnny's original uniform was on ebay. I bid on it but it went higher than I was willing to pay. I think it sold for about $1200.00.

Do the best possible replicas the guy who owns this place bought the original Johnny one he ended up paying $5500 I think for it but these are as near to one as you would get.

Also yes the other guys are right the Gi's they were made by Century and the colour isn't black but its like a black, grey, brown colour would be very hard to match it all depends what light your looking at it in, I know this as I own the original one worn by the Character "Dutch" I always wanted one since I saw the film when I was a kid and just think its awesome.
