CNC routing foams

So I've secured a little quality time :)love ) with a CNC router and I know nothing about high density foams.

Any suggestions as to what I should use for CNC'ing fairly high detail armor pieces? (think Master Chief or *cough* ironman)

^ I think I may go with that site.

But what about commercial insulation? The rigid styrofoam blocks? Would a cnc router just shred it?

You can try making your own 'blocks' out of the two part fast cast resin, just pour a mixed amount into a square 'mold' and when hard it machines real nice.
makes awesome tools/shapes/bucks for vacforming with.
Cheapest stuff to use is blue foam used by insulation/ building companies, failing that look up a surfboard foam as that has the advantage of being fibreglass safe. It depends on what you want to put the 'foam' through after milling, however. (blue foam is rubbish for vacforming, and melts with resin, BTW)

You can buy different densities of the machinable foam at a sign material supply wholesaler. Stuff is not cheap! You can buy a 1" thick sheet cut it to approximate the design and laminate it to gain thickness to help save on cost.

How about using foam for the main structure then clay on top. The auto industry does one side of a car in clay then has the computer scan it then CNC the whole car out of clay or foam.
