Christies Trek auction catalogue online

I'm not sure whether to post this in the studio scale forum, but it might fit in here better...

Christies has now an online catalogue of the auction. LOTS of models, I've counted around hundred, with some real highlights (original 100inch A Enterprise, B,C,D,E Enterprise, DS9, Reliant, Defiant, BirdofPrey and much much more).

I'm very tempted to participate, but just don't have the funds. Does anybody see the models in person? If the photos are takes from the models in their current state, they seem to be in rather good shape, but I have my doubts (sometimes they write about loose parts and such). Phew, really unhappy to let a one-time chance pass by.... :confused

Trek Auction Online Catalogue

Received the catalogues a week ago...great stuff. No money whatsoever to take part though. :cry

Now if someone can lend me US$35,000 to buy the Enterprise-A.....? :)

A bit OT, but I thought it was funny that T'Pol's Phase Pistol is actually a modified Art Asylum toy... :eek :lol

Wow, those are many of the actual filming models and without stratospheric price estimates. Original blueprints, too. We can only hope and pray that some collector will get these models who will put them on display (either online or in person) and not just hide them away forever. . .

Kurt, this is your chance buddy.. :D

No offence Kurt, but I want Paul Allan to get the Refit miniature. That way I can see it in person at the Sci-fi museum here in Seattle. :)

Does anybody have that catalogue? Are there more pictures of those models, so that you could identify the state they are in?

Actually, there are some notable omissions -

The Borg Sphere (from :FC)
The original Borg Cube (from :TNG)
The Travel Pod (from :TMP)
Epsilon Nine (from :TMP)
Kirk / Spock space suited figures (from :TMP)

I don't know - are these on display at the SCI-FI Museum (didn't see them when I was there) or the Star Trek Experience in Vegas?

Due to it's size, most of the V'ger pieces were just scrapped after :TMP, but I know some sections have survived.

I was also surprised at how little concept artwork was being sold. (I guess the past Profiles auctions took care of that.) Relatively speaking, it seems heavily skewed to costumes, hand props, and set pieces. And of course, the filming miniatures.

I just can't believe they're selling so many iconic filming miniatures. And their estimated prices seem really low considering how popular these things are. I wonder if there will be a bidding war on some of the better items like the 100-inch Enterprise refit miniature? Those models are not in the best of condition but they are really important icons. I do hope that Paul Allen picks up some of them and has room to display them. . . :)

I seem to remember Epislon 9 having been cannibalized. Perhaps for a TNG station.

If I were filthy rich, I'd be going for that big E, too. Having no room for it, I'd let the museum exhibit it on extended loan. ;)

If I were slightly less filthy in my richness, I'd go for the Ambassador class model (originally Enterprise-C, now with other markings).

Epsilon 9... you know, that's a very notable omission, but why am I thinking that it ended up in someone's hands? Also, did I miss a listing for Regula 1?
Wish me well in model acquisitions...

EDIT: instead of posting yet another reply here... I do wish they'd contacted Paul and simply asked if he wanted to do a deal for a number of pieces, removing the need for these to even get to the block. I am as hopeful as others that, whoever ends up with the pieces, that they take care of them and maintain them.

Why... do I have fears of folks using some of the pieces as, um, patterns...

and as for the models, I hope individuals would be contracted (ahem) to restore, repair and redress to original livery certain more notable ships.

The 100 inch Enterprise A is the holy grail in that collection for me.

Following not too far behind would be the full size Reliant, Excelsior/Lakota, Grissom, Klingon Bird Of Prey or D-7. The next gen ships are cool too but the film ships are just so close to my heart. Even Regula-1 and Spacedock should fetch huge prices. I really do wonder if these models will go for the prices they show. I would highly doubt it. I'd guess they all go for at least triple their estimated values. Is it possible to find out what everything sold for after the fact?

If I'm not mistaken, the prices listed on the Christie's site are the opening bids....
I have to think that some very serious collectors, probably from overseas (Japan especially)are going to come out in force and pay HUGE money for the ship models. It's really a shame. I think they should live in one place, some museum, but who has that kind of money? (Bill Gates, are you lurking here?)
Paramount is cashing in on their history, they don't care.
Are they going to sell CGI frame captures in thirty or fourty more years of ships from new films or shows?
This is tangible history of the Star Trek years we've lived through, and to them it's just merchandise.

Regula 1 is in there, but it isn't labeled that.

Found it, it's there as Regula One... I thought it might be in as the complex from TMP or some such.

Yeah, realize that a lot of the movie minatures got new decals and paint finishes for use in the TV shows. The refit Enterprise was repainted after :TMP (I think for ST:V) and I think the nice pearlescent finish on the panels is gone. The Spacedock got a good reworking for Generations - don't know if they will include the parts that were removed.

The Spacedock from ST:III has a notation that it includes a box of loose parts. I thought that was funny. I would imagine they will ALL contain loose parts by now.

As for the price ranges, I've found them (at least with the Profiles stuff I've bid on) to be just a starting point. For some of the smaller items, they might be accurate. But for the big ticket stuff, I've noticed that the HIGH end of the price range is usually where the bidding begins.

Well, as far as the Refit E goes, it was NOT repainted entirely. I worked at Foundation Imaging when it was there for MONTHS when we did the special Edition DVD and I can assure you it still sports the original color scheme. They had to dull it down, I think Bill George did that, for filming since it was too shinny so it was coated in dull coat and the area that was re painted was the secondary hull after Trek II and a botched touch up paint job to the secondary hull for Trek V. I have tons of pictures that show the pearls in all there dulled down glory. It is a VERY beastiful paint job even though they messed with it. Quite an inpressive piece to own. Wish I had the bucks.
