Christies sued for $7mil over "fake" Trek props

You realise that he paid $6000 for something with so little value that Paramount doesn't even want to store it?

Paramount literally emptied their warehouses of all Trek models, costumes, set pieces and props. From tiny and insignificant items to the huge filming models that fetched millions at auction.

From what I can see, the piece was at least misrepresented in the beginning, which would seem to make for a valid case, assuming sufficent effort was not made to correct the initial listing. But something else occurs to me...

Sufficient notice WAS given. The item description was amended in writing and verbally the day of the auction. Mr. Pizza Man does not stand a chance. He should go back to throwing dough up in the air.

hands down this sounds like a screw job how many others have been sold fakes? most every item purchased on e bay right now that says it was from the actual movie or screen used is crap fake or someone just bought one that looks like it or may even be the exact kind used in the movie ,but if caught I THINK THE SCUM SHOULD PAY DEARLY i think they should all movie companies should drop chrities like a bad habbit if they are going to pull this kind of crap .

Did you even read the thread it wasn't a fake it came from the studios storage facility it was a production made piece exactly what it was sold as.

What are you talking about?

You might want to READ a thread BEFORE you attempt to comment on it!

Back on track, this guy doesn't have a chance of winning. Got to read the fine print on these kinds of things. People shouldn't buy something like this without doing their homework. There are tons of items made for TV and movies that get little or no screen time. Just the nature of the business.

WELL SAID!

Christie's Conditions of Sale do clearly state that item descriptions may be amended by any salesroom notice or announcement. They issued a printed correction sheet before the auction, and the auctioneer made a verbal announcement prior to opening bidding on the lot. I would consider this due diligence. I don't see how the auction house can be held accountable for what the bidder later says he "thought."

It will be interesting to see what argument his lawyer makes if this does get to court.

Christie's sure seems to have this wrapped up. I would think as public as this lawsuit is, that Christie's would want to squash him to keep others from tying them up in other frivolous lawsuits.

I am soo tired of lawyers trying to get to everyone's money... I'd rather live in some of the Sci-fi worlds we recreate props from. grrrr

No angels in this case. He should have read more but I still feel like Christies has too much legal verbiage going on to not seems a bit shifty.

Actually in just about every legal system in the world (except the US) if you loose you have to pay the costs of the other. This is the main reason there are so many BS lawsuits in the US.

Regardless of the finer points of this case, it is great that authentification and provenance is being discussed and given air time. If this reduces the fakes being auctioned it is a great thing.
