Chewbacca Build (WIP-lot's of pics)

Teeth are roughed in now. I ordered a cheep set of loose acrylic teeth on ebay, sculpted the gums, placed the individual teeth in the gums, sculpted rough canines, and then casted each of the upper and lower sets. Still have to thin up the canines, they're a little too robust right now. Chewie's are a bit more gracile and pointed.

Here's the underskull

Wow,

I am just blown away by the attention to detail on this build. I love all the little things you are adding to the mask instead of just throwing a latex one on. A lot of people will never know how much time and love you have put into it. But it will set it truely above any others I have ever seen if you keep it up this way.

Nicely done!

Thanks you very much Cubone! I'm having a ton of fun with this and trying to get as close as I can to the actual suit. I will be wearing this a lot and would rather take the time now and do it right the first time.

If there's anything I'd like to change down the road I've got molds of everything so that things can be replaced or upgraded. As everyone knows here there is a ton of time put into all of these projects...and Chewie is no exception for sure!

Working on the teeth more. I shifted their placement slightly. Work on the lowers is done. Canines have been shaved down. Upper canines need some filling. Paint on upper gums is the first layer of color. It takes about seven diff layers and colors to get to where the lower teeth are.

How do the lowers look?

Mrrraaawwwrr!!!! Rawr mrawr rawr rawr!!

Er.....

I mean yes! The lower jaw looks awesome haha. Looking at it the right lower canine looks a little to far out. The other one is touching the gums, but maybe it's the angle.

Thanks! They may be a bit off. I'm hoping to not have everything symmetrical when done. I'm thinking Chewie never made it to the orthodontist. I must say painting the gums was tougher than I thought it would be. As long as it looks passable from a few feet. I'm sure Freeborn didn't drive himself nuts on something that was out of camera range.

Teeth are painted...still have a touch of tooth filling to do on them....annoying pin holes from bubbles! Got a great jump on the snarl mechanism as well. It's going to take some monkeying around once the wire is attached to the skin to get it dialed in for sure.

Here is the mask now at neutral..

Here's a good look at the painted teeth and the snarl mech...

Here's a quick video of the mask being worn. Again the snarl mech isn't attached to the skin yet, but it's shifting the upper lip some nonetheless. Magnets on the skin holding it in place. This will be how the skin is held on. I'm still torn between magnets and velcro. But the velcro around all of that hair seems like a pain in the rear...

Man, I've been following this build closely. I'm loving every part of it! Really looking forward to seeing the final product! :popcorn

Taking a short side step to the bandolier...ordered one Hammond 1590A die cast aluminum project box. Boxes are $7 a pop plus shipping for them. You need 9 of them. They can always be updated later!

So I made a mold of one and started hollow casting them in resin. To finish them I'm using silver rub n buff which gives a nice finish and then clear coating them

At right are three boxes. Lower is orig, middle is raw resin and top is finished resin piece

After getting humming on these I decided I didn't want the larger ones to be resin. You really can't cheat on them. So I picked up some .025 aluminum sheet, got out my micrometer, vise, square and razor blade and started.

Small box is one of the Hammond casts. This is the prototype (sans bottom plate) along with one of the ref pics.

*sniffles* It's so beautiful...I can't wait to see this walking carpet all done..and...well...walking. :lol

Marching ever closer...ordered up the belt blanks for the bandolier today. I actually found a company selling 3.5" wide blanks...so no trimming down 80 inches of leather from 4". Yeah for time savings!

Thanks Rion. I think it will look a little better once it gets dialed in a little more. Spent some time this evening in bandolier box production mode.
