Cheap Spray Booth

Am I completely insane for even thinking about paying a couple of bucks for one of these for use as a spray booth?

Obviously I would be wearing a mask and would be using it outside with the flaps open but I'm more concerned about any possible build up of flamable fumes. You would think they would escape out the walls since oxygen has to pass through to breath.

Without a ventillation system to actively move out the bad air and bring in fresh air, you're going to be sitting in a toxic, possibly flammable death trap.

Go on ebay, look for vendor jcmfabrication (or just do a search for spray booth and his will come up) and get one his paint booths. For $220 shipped, you get everything you need except a light.

Just to be clear I didn't plan to sit inside the tent while painting. I would be sat outside the door in the open air spraying in so ventillation shouldn't be a problem. The problem might come from a lack of extraction. I normally just spray outside against a cardboard box so I need something collapsable for easy storage.

I got a decent sheet metal spray booth with fan from Harbor Freight for like $40 about three years ago. My work area is in the basement near the laundry machines, so I disconnect my clothes dryer and hook up the booth (with its own dedicated hose) to the dryer exhaust vent in the wall. The filters require regular cleaning, but it works pretty well. None of the hobby-market ones I've seen are really any nicer, and cost five times as muxh.

You think that's a cheap spray booth, RKW? Hell, I just grabbed an empty Banker's Box and use that outdoors in warmer weather... :lol lol

@ Krachenvogel: Awesome avatar pic. GiTS kicks @$$ (definitely one of the better Anime series out there). :D

Sorry about that. Just checked - it's jcmetalfab

he's got a booth going right now that ends in a few hours.

They're definitely worth every dime. The fan is more than powerful enough to vent the box (and it's quiet, too), there's plenty of room inside to work on large models and it's fairly easy to assemble.

Like I said, all you have to add is an interior light (and a length of 4" dryer duct if you plan on working inside).
