CELTIC Bio from P1 to finished sculpt Pics are up!!!

Well, you're about the best thing coming from EA games

Hi Steve,

I was just wondering. Will you only sculpt Bio's used in one of the movies. Or will you one day design and sculpt your own ?

Greetz,

Barry

Hi Barry

Good question! I plan on first of all getting a few of my favourites out of the way first from the 3 films and then I'll be concepting up a few marker drawings of new Bio's to then turn into finished sculps.

I'm a full time concept artist so this is something I've been wanting to do for some time.

If I could work as a prop builder or sculptor/painter full time I would leave the games industry in a second!

It's a hard one to follow and I guess and having enough work coming in to make it full time is a problem I guess.

Steve

Great Steve I can't wait to see some of your own conceptsketches.

The reason I asked is I consider Paul, Pete and you as my favorite sculptors. I'm currently working on my own sculpt of the P1 Bio, problem I recently watched Porsche by Paul again and became disheartened. How can I ever come close to that
(And Paul, I'd really buy one if I had the money)

So know I'm considering either sticking to the original plan of a mediocre take on a P1 or making a Barry original going from my own concept (maybe inspired on an Imperial Roman Legionary).

What do you guys think ?

Barry

Barry,

How much sculpting experience do you have? this Celtic Bio is my first time at it. you could get the measuremnets of the P1 which is 21.5" from the chin to the top of the peaks at the back in an arc and 13" in width. - build the base of it in card and back it with layers of plastic cut up and then when your happy with it, cover the whole thing in Epoxy!?

Just an idea mate, hope that helps.

Barry,

Wow I am flattered, I don't consider the Porsche all that other than just being symmetrically accurate. I am a stickler for symmetry and usually don't like anything that's not, but I can be really picky. Even though the Porsche looks like a P1, it's really it's own helmet when you see all of the differences side by side.

Not trying to Hijack Steve, but thought I would respond.

Barry, you are in good hands here on the lair and between a few of us that do original designs, you will be in good company.

I am currently working on several new Bios and one is an original design.

Thanks again,

Paul

All's cool Paul , looking forward to seeing your new designs myself.

Hi Steve,

Well this is my second sculpting project. The first was a 1:1 Warhammer 40K spacemarine helmet (too big to wear).

I did exactly what you said. I made a base of card and I'm no sculpting with a oil based clay. I will send I some pics soon.

Thanks again Steve.

Paul also thanks for the encouragement. I consider the Porsche bettter than the original design just like I consider Steve's Celtic superior to the movie version

I'm still not sure what to do. But I still have time I'm still busy getting the basic features done.

Thanks again guys.

Barry

If you mail me the pictures, Blackhawk, I might be able to host them. Nol[@]home[.]nl

Like the texture on that Barry, that's looking very organic, almost reptile like. Would be great to get close in with the camera to pick up on the detail more.

Steve, nice to mention the texture. The only problem is it isn't texture at all. It's just a set up and I need to smooth out the clay
But it really is a nice idea to consider it texture....

Barry

Cool yeah just a thought mate, some bio's apear smooth from a distance, I've always wanted to do one that was heavily damaged by alien acid or even half missing from acid.

Steve

Steve I'm really anxious to see your take on that concept

I really like the idea of a claw half ruining the facial plate...
I am still not sure which way I'll go with this bio, I guess I just have to wait for some more inspiration

Barry

bump...

Andrew, shouldn't this be under the Huntorials section?

Sweet ***** Steve matey! I..erm.i..i... i LOVE it!

I have to admit when I saw the first photo I thought this guy is really doing this the hard way. but you have shown that there is more than one way to skin a cat. Who would ever skin a cat? Anyway very nice work. I see alot of helmets that lack a little symmetry. Yours looks to be very symmetrical. This is the best celtic I've seen yet. By the way the photos of your progression is almost the best part.

thanks mate, it was a long hard journey getting this done as you can see from the pics..

It's my Pride and joy
