CC Museum Needs A Rocket Pack

Hey Fin heads,

My buddy over at Comic-Con is working on a Dave Steven's exhibit at the Comic Con Museum in San Diego, and they need to borrow a Rocket Pack.
It's needed ASAP and they will display it with Screen Worn Helmet and suit, but are short a pack, for about 4 months.

Who's got one?

I don’t know about anybody else, but mine was labor intensive and extremely expensive. No WAY I would entrust a bunch of strangers to handle it without my being there. And for FOUR MONTHS?! Not without a really hefty security deposit!

And if you do; you should work with a very detailed contract;) Usually, any props/art, etc... should be handled by pros (Museum quality handling).
Is there such a pro available during the Expo? Security on the site? Insurance? All genuine questions anyone should ask(y)

Some people spend months to years making this particular prop. So if you want a quality piece to display, you have to understand that the person lending their prop, is going to want it back in exactly the same condition they lent it. You mention nothing about shipping, so, I'm thinking you are hoping for someone local who can drop it off? Even with that, they want some guarantee that they're going to get it back. A promise and a handshake probably won't be enough.

I'm also thinking that you should mention, that the lent prop should have the "lender's" name displayed near the prop to either thank, or advertise their generosity and possibly their prop business (if they have one).

The Comic-com Museum website is conspicuously empty on information on who works there. Who's the director? I had to google it. Is there a Registrar? Preparators? Something tells me they just hire outside contractors when they need an exhibit put up.

I suspect the OP is beginning to see how foolish his request was.

Let me put this into prospective: I’ll loan you my jet pack for four months and you loan me your car.

Having seen your pack; I'd ask for his GF instead:lol::ninja::p

The people at CC really underestimate the work it takes to build one of these & the attachment the builder then has to it.

The request was so nonchalant, like they were expecting people to line up to 'donate', detached from reality I think.

Strange all in all... the OP is here since 2001 and a premium member:unsure: You'd think that, after all those years, he should've known how to ask properly other members to loan him that prop:rolleyes:

No harm in asking. Expecting...is another story.
Generally, I think most people here are pretty generous with their advice and time, however, their props.....

Well, not him, it was a second hand request, which explains a bit of the casualness. But I haven't come across any first hand requests anywhere, which is odd. I'm sure if Steven's sister had made a request on facebook a couple months ago they could have easily gotten a loan.

Or, and I am just playing devils advocate here, he thought that since it WILL be displayed along side a Screen-used prop, that Security would be in place as well as insured .
