Hi all,
I've just registered as a member, so apologies if this question has been asked and answered: what software do you use for cataloging your collection? Many thanks and best wishes, roosevelt.

It's actually a great idea. I never thought about it, I figured I have so many pics of my props that I would just use those if I ever needed to.

I think we'll release a software soon :)

Very cool!

my thoughts exactly
I got real good advice when I started
not only pics of the item on my PC, but info like who I got it from, their email/which forum; price then, shipping etc. Its all stuff that you quickly forget with time, and quite useful to have when you evetually part with an item

Agreed,

I only can recommend yourprops.com, it is a great website. It's really easy to navigate and finding your favorite props.

BTW: My user name on yourprops.com is "Trekkie" and you might find more of my props than here.

Thank you! :)

By the way, theRPF lets you add a link to your collection on yourprops.com that will be displayed as an

icon under your posts count on the left.

Gotta agree, best website for cataloging your collection, and you can easily show it off to anyone you want to... :) I also have my own website just so I can include larger (and a lot more) photos if I want to.

I also have everything cataloged in list form in an Excel doc, that's about as far as I've gone. The Excel doc lists the movie title, prop name, date received, amount spent, COA or catalog number from where I bought it (when applicable), and a column for how much I sold it for if it's no longer with me... I can easily sort by movie title, and add up the total amount spent on props (which can be a frightening revelation at times... :cool ). This is also handy for insurance purposes, if you insure your collection.

Someone should write an app for my iphone. This would be ideal as I always have it on me and would make it easy to show others.

What would you want it do, exactly? I've never looked, but there might be generic 'log your collection' apps already... I've thought about making a check-list type collecting program for the iPhone (not that I can really program for it though, just thinking), but it would be damn hard to make a check list for props... :) (As in, a list of all existing ones, you check off the ones you have...)

I use YourProps for this though, just create an account there, upload photos and descriptions, and then you can bookmark a link directly to just your stuff... Of course, you need to have a connection to view it, but it works great for showing stuff off to friends/family.

Thanks to this thread I sat down at my computer last night and Cataloged my collection. I just did it in Word and put in a description of the prop and the estimated fair market value of it. The way I came to a fair market value is thinking what would be a price that someone would buy it within in a day or so. For instance, I estimated my MR Han Solo ESB blaster with case at $250, though I might get closer to $275 or $285.

I'm thinking of hiring a moving company, supervising, and having it all put into storage. Easy way to inventory. May prepare to move to Belize. ;)

I love this website and I strongly recommend it. I think it is one of the best prop oriented websites online..

The only problem is the search function is a little off...For instance, you type in Gladiator and press search...Not all the items in the Gladiator movie pops up..You have to click movie title in the movie box area to see the rest of the items..Even if you click on the boxes in the search function for production materials and screenused...Not all the items come up during the search...

Whatever you do, don't keep the information on your computer or print it out and keep it at home. Online is best, I'd even give a copy to the insurance people, ahead of time. :)

I have an usb port with pictures of my items and scans of the certificates of authenticity. I keep it in my desk at work...

I keep it for insurance purposes since I live in fire zone area....The freeway complex fire was the last huge fire...The past 3 months, we have 4-5 small brush fires nearby.

It would be helpful if you could lidt item, description, origional/replica, photo certificate etc. Will have to investigate this further!?!
