Casting Rubber Stamps

I intend to make a stamp out of photopolymer, and I understand these types of stamps don't work with all inks and don't last forever.

Does anyone know a way I can cast a mould out of one of these stamps and then produce copies in a better material?

I've never done it myself, but I've seen people use silicone caulking to make stamps. And I've seen people use silicone caulking for molding and casting. So it's possible that you could fill the mold with the caulking and have a usable stamp.

Both techniques should be pretty easily found with some quick searches. I haven't looked up the info for awhile (came across it while looking for a cheap and dirty way to mold something small once when I was out of regular silicone) so I don't have any specific sites to offer up offhand.

Speedball sells blocks of stamp making rubber as well as the carving tools.
Check out Michael's or other type art / craft stores.

Linoleum is another option, get the print making type.

There are also places that make custom stamps from your artwork.

The stamps I'm making are small and utilize mostly text.

Additionally, I'm going to try and produce a few copies of each, therefore I need to be able to cast them.

I'm going to mold it in plaster, since the stamps are shallow and aren't too three-dimensional.

I'm willing to spend money on liquid silicon, I'm just not sure if oomoo is the best option for the final stamps.

I guess i'll just have to experiment.
