Casting Rigid Helmet Help Please, Newb Warning,

Alright, Apologies for the Newb moment,

I am looking at making a mold of a rigid helmet,
I have seen a while back pictures of very thin rigid outside molds for doing this.
About all I think I know is that a silicone goes on the outside of the helmet, then a rigid skin of some sort (Fiberglass cloth?)

But that is all I think I know in a general sense,

Could anyone help me on filling the blanks, Like if it is silicone & fiberglass, and if so, or if not what exactly to use, and how to use it,

Thank you for your patience with my Newbishness in this medium,

Also, I have heard the term slushcasting, which I take to understand is a thin application of a resin (or something) that is applied in a thin application all around the inside of the mold,
I am trying for a hollow rigid mold,
Could anyone help me out with this as well?

Damn I feel like a rookie,

Thanks alot that does awnser Alot of my questions,
Now just to find out how much to buy, and if there are any bestones,

A ridged helmet? Could you explain this a little more? What king of helmet are we talking about? Is this a clay sculpt, or an existing helmet?

Mold making and casting is pretty involved, and would fill several pages of instructions. So it would help if you could explain what you want a little more, or even include a picture.

take your pattern..... cover it in brushable silicone..... cover THAT in plastipaste... poor plastic inside.

er... kinda like that anyways

here's a ROUGH idea of what I mean, and most details are left out, also, the mold is not great, but you get the idea:

Well I am looking to cast a space marine helmet, so that I can mess with pulls from it and not risk the original, since I only have one of them and cannot really get more,
if that Helps,
Its already been cast, so its not clay that I am casting,

Did you make the Space marine helmet yourself? If not, that would be recasting. Recasting the work someone else has done is really frowned upon; essentially it is plagiarism. Unless the person you got the helmet from has given you their permission to recast it, I would suggest sculpting your own helmet first.

Its Cool to Recast,
As seen Below,
Valid question though,

I'm in the Far East right now, so I haven't been making any progress at all. At the same time, I made the mistake of listing a couple of helmets on ebay a couple of months ago and GW noticed. I got a C&D order from them or at least that's what it seemed like based on the low-quality scan I had emailed to me. So it looks like I can't sell any more of these helmets.

That said, if you've already got one of the helmets, please feel free to recast it to your heart's content.

I'm still planning on building a costume for myself for Halloween. Work will begin in earnest once I get off of the ship and back to my workshop.

In the meantime, I'd really like to see what everyone else has come up with.

I used the link mentioned above and got the casting book everyone on here uses and my stuff (sorta) worked. I do not recommend thrixotropic silicone though, it was too thick and made the mothermold a pain in the ass. I could not get the silicone to line up right in the rigid outer mold and I spent the next 3 months filling, sanding and building up with bondo. I know better now.

If you are casting the beakies we might be able to work out something for a TAU helmet.
