Casting resin

Hi there,

I was wondering if anyone could suggest a good casting resin that is black when set. A lot of what I have found on the web is white. Are there resins that kick black, or do you have to add pigments to the white stuff to turn it black. Just made something I want to try to cast but I want it to be black. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I cast all my parts in dark grey resin, with pigments

the problem is that because most resins are white or off yellow when
hardened, you would have to add lots of black pigment to get it very dark grey.

but if you use transparent resin it would work.

OK, I thought maybe I would need to add pigment, but I have seen lots of kits for sale that are pure black, not just gray, any idea how these are being done? Thanks for the help.

Don't waste your money on tints if you can buy it already black. Try MAX FCR. Sets to a nice glossy finish (assuming your mold was smooth), and very reasonably priced. $16.32 plus shipping for a 48 oz. kit.

I agree with GM, i just picked up up some from the dealer on ebay to try, real glossy finish, looks great out of the mold.

Alumilite makes a black as well...not as glossy as the above, but great for blasters and those "worn" parts. The best part is it's 1:1 mix ratio and it's by volume, not weight.
