Carpenter's THE THING

I love the thing.
There are a few replicas of the thing itself out there, from various makers.
I made this a good few years ago, one of the first 'things' i ever made
Excuse the pics this is before the days of digital cameras

It was made to go into a corner of the ceiling on a bracket, it had poseable legs and i posed it reaching out, cant find the pics i took of it in situe.
Now i think of it it would be a cool thing to have in the shop sitting in the corner , i might just make it again. :) i could do a better job than i did with this one

Such a great movie, my all time #1 of Horror movies. I have been searching for a full size Norris head spider kit for years. I saw one once years ago, and have never seen another for sale.
There was a smaller sized one from a couple of years ago that was nice (a statue - don't remember who made it) I think it was 1/2 or 1/4 scale - either way it was too small.
I have not thought about some other props, the petri dish (with the alien blood reacting from the hot copper wire) is a good idea. :)

I saw this model kit at Amoktime.com they also carry a 1:1 spider head but are out at the time.

Thanks for the suggestion. That is a pretty nice website. I am not sure about the Palmer dish, it is a little more...something, with the human teeth and little arms, I'm not sure, my impression from the movie was not that. It is a quick moment, but that seems too evolved. Although for a model that is only $29.99 with the petri dish and all, it make make a nice conversion over to a more screen accurate one.
The didn't seem to sell a full-size Norris head. They do have one, but it is only 4 inches tall (and sold out.) Maybe they could not get it in so they took it off the site, as they do list everything they sell, even stuff that is sold out.
The search continues...

The best photos I have are distance (I'm at work). I have the Spider head, fusion bust (lizard), and a custom Norwegian. Will have to take closeups when I get home.

Man, I love the Petri dish and great spider head Frosty.

Thanks guys, that's no sleep for me tonight, that movie scares the pi$$ outta me... :|

You need to go here:

This is where I got my 1:1 scale Norris spider-head...

That is awesome. THANK YOU... I asume since you have one that the buying experiance with them was alright? It always makes me a little nervous buying from someone the first time. But for this I will risk it anyway. It will not be until next month (spent a little too much money lately) but I will be buying this in April.
Much thanks again, Morganthirteen.

Pictures of a finished Dark Carnival Spiderhead kit...

I also have one, but bought it through Monsters In Motion. I had to wait for them to get a large order from I assume DC, and I waited for a year.

I painted this Kennel Dog kit for Nightmare Collectibles a few years back.

I called Dark Carnival models. They said a 3-4 week turnaround. It isn't one they stock and it is made to order.

The Thing- One of my all time favorite horror movies.
Here's a old piece done by a old 'pin-pal' (slang before the internet. lol) David Bartrug
It's a take on the creature from that movie and it was a giant size mask/bust
I think I got a blank pull from a trade and I did the paint work on this one here.
Many resin teeth were also added. Plus plenty of slime..
Don't know if many were produced. Mine eventually melted from the heat from to many hot summers ago.. :(
The corpse pictured beside it was done up by me. Those hands are from Death Studios
