Hi,

Need some help identifying this very specific looking hood ornament on Draculas car from the Monster Squad.

I started working on my vintage hot rod and would love to get something akin to the above put on my hood.

It's highly possible this was a custom one off but curious if there's something similar or in the spirit of the original.

Any car people or fans have info on this?

I think they talked about it on the special edition dvd release of the movie, either on the commentary or in the extra features. Been a while since I've checked it out and I'm not entirely certain, but I think it was custom made and perhaps cast from a skull the prop guy owned. I may misremember completely.

Always liked the look of it.

ah, thank you both!

I think i'm going to get an individual skull and a vintage ford hood ornament welded together to make something similar.

I'm almost tempted to 3d sculpt one as well for fun (idk how i'd cast it in metal tho).

If it's a hood ornament, does it need to be metal? Wouldn't a fiberglass shell be strong enough and then just chrome it?

I think you're right about Chroming it.

The more I think about it, the more I want to just have a go at 3d sculpting this for fun. I'm pretty sure I can do it once i gather more images and measurements etc.

Now I can print it as a single solid piece in either abs or nylon, then chrome. What I would need to figure out is how to put threads in there so it attaches to the hood. I doubt I can use industrial double sided tape on the hood (i have a restomod 66 mustang and the body has gnarly paint and chips so I don't care about damaging the paint).

Some fdm filament can be screwed into and hold pretty well, if the screw holes and grooves are added to the model and printed like that.

Or you could talk to CAD people on how they would make it.

For extra oomph... you could have your own skull scanned in a medical scanner.

Yeah, but it probably costs a lot if it is not medical related. But you can get scan data from such where you extract the skull part from the soft tissue parts of the scan.

Saw a video on youtube about one who was able to get the data after a scan and then used his own skull for a prohject.
