Captain Jack's Tricorn 4.0 Commission AWE Version.

I have been working more and more with this costume piece and really am enjoying the results. This was a commission that I did for another forum. Working on 5.0 and should be finished soon.

The difference on this model is that I have now used a REAL wooden hat block and achieved excellent results on the bowl. No more bowl imprints....nothing but a nice round shape.

Second I have used a lighter brown and mixed in a little Kelly green. Achieved excellent results. The flash brings out the green but in normal light you can barely tell it is there.

Here are the pics! No flash and flash order!

I was one of the lucky recipients of one of these fantastic tricorns and I have to say this is the best tricorn I've laid my hands on...I've owned three other versions. This tricorn that was made for me looks like it came straight from the POTC III dressing room floor. The colors used in the leather to weather it are outstanding! This is a great piece by a great board member. AWESOME WORK, BRO!!!!! :love

I may be doing some more this summer. I currently have one on order and I am improving another one for me which will be more like Curse Of The Black Pearl version.

Hi Matey,

that hat looks incredible! Fantastic job! :eek

I can't wait to see your "Curse of the Black Pearl"-Version. Depending on the outcome of that I may be interested in one of your hats too! Can you tell me the price for one of those please?

Keep to the code!:thumbsup

I too would be interested in price here...this would be a great capper to my Jack Sparrow Costume!

Check out my progress here:

By the way, Capn_Jack_Savvy,
I've tried sending you a friend request on myspace several times but I always get this note:
Wediznutt only accepts add requests from people he/she knows. You must enter Wediznutt 's email address to send your request.

I'm not sure why I mention it exactly because I'm mostly on Face-Book anymore BUT I would love to pick your brain on some Captain Jack Sparrow stuff some time!

Capn_Jack_Savvy,

That tricorn looks really good. Excellent coloring and great craftsmanship :eek

How long have you been working with leather? You look like an old hand at it.

Steve

CJS's stuff if always top notch, he does any excellent job on his leather items. (I wish I could do some of this stuff. :lol )

This is what I love about RPF registration! All the old threads start floating back up to the surface!!!:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol

I made my first leather craft piece in 1973 as a Boy Scout! I think it was a leather wallet that no one ended up using because those things were hideous! Beads, thick leather lace, and some sort of Western motive tooled into it! Oh yeah I also made a bookmark!!!:lol

Actually since I saw Curse Of The Black Pearl I have started testing various techniques and over the last three years have finally somewhat perfected my craft!!!

Thanks for the compliments by the way!!!

It's always good to get comments about old projects. :p

(You deserve the praise either way! :p )

Greetings,

As a fellow pirate reenactor/entertainer, I must say I am impressed by your tricorn construction. I have never tried to make one out of leather, but may give it a shot over the holidays.

Smooth Sailing,

You did an excellent job. the colour is amazing. Did you use dye or oil - what brand? You have a good finishing technique. Also with french binding. You really have neat edges there. After skiving the edge it must be awkward turning over as you can only work on one small section at a time.

I am attempting to make mine after my acme hat disappeared in transit several months ago!

Whilst annoyed, I suppose its lead me to learn leathercraft.

French binding. - Do you only skive the folded part for gluing.

I have looked at dyes and oils etc i.e. tandy and am at a loss to pick the right colours. I really enjoyed reading this one. Thanks a lot mate
