Captain Jack Sparrow scabbard - Unstained

Well after developing the correct pattern template it took less than 30 minutes to create my new scabbard design. It requires no stitching and looks almost like the movie prop. The leather was still wet as I was trying to work out the indentations in the leather.

Everything is glued using Tandy Leather glue. The stuff dries in about 15 minutes but they reccomend 24 hours before doing anything drastic with the leather.

I used my new plastic CJS sword (it to will undergo a major overhaul and paint job to make it more realistic) because the blade is thicker than the MR version. The scabbard can now be used for both the MR version (where real weapons are OK) and the plastic version (where real weapons are not OK).

Right on dude looks nice.. I got the leather to do this to my sword just dreading stitching it up on the back side...

Why stitch is my new motto now that I have the design down for gluing.

Here is the completed staining! I tried out the MR sword in the scabbard and it is a little loose but that is easy to fix with something wedged into the scabbard.

Very good job dude

What weight of leather did you use? And it looks like you essentially rolled up a tube (in the right shape of course) and glued the seam on the back?? and where did you get the brass stud?

Actually it is very similar to my stitched version with the exception that there is a third piece that is folded on the inside and serves as the base for gluing.

The seam is along the blade which faces downwards to the ground when worn so no one really sees it.

The rivet/washer is called a Sam Browne washer and is available from Tandy Leather or tandyleather.com. Costs about $2.00 if I remember correctly.

For this particular scabbard I ended up using the same 3 ounce leather. It is much stiffer this time because of the third flap. It is also a little thicker for the thicker plastic sword.

All your Jack Sparrow related creations are done very well, and this one is no exception. Great job, mate.
