Captain America!

Just finished watching it for the second time. My wife, who is not into comics or really ever read comics, wanted to see it again. I enjoyed so much the first time, that I was happy to oblige. First time in 2D, second time in 3D. I noticed some detail in 3D that I didn't in 2D, but the 3D makes everything in the background perpetually blurry that I noticed so much background detail missing that I was aware of the first time. I can't wait for Avengers either.

So in the Easter egg after the credits, I noticed Ironman, Thor, Hawkman, Captain America, of course, and also Black Widow. I also noticed Loki, who, perhaps, will be the primary antagonist, if not the only one. I wonder if we'll see others like the Hulk. We did, after all, see him tied in after Ed Norton's Hulk movie. This begs the question: Will the rebooted Spiderman also tie in to the Avengers movie? Perhaps if there's an Avengers 2? Wonder who else, if any, we'll see. Maybe this is why Spiderman is being rebooted rather than bringing in Tobey McQuire. And is Red Skull dead? Or maybe he was transported up to answer to Odin? Maybe we'll see him again. Just random thoughts now.

Anyway, wife and I both agree this movie ranks up there with Ironman 1.
 
my favorite moment of the whole movie was during the USO show montage where they show captain america #1 comics being sold to the kids. incredible idea

also both me and my friend thought of ROTJ instantly during the bike scene when he deployed the tripwire thing
 
Just saw the film, loved it. I really liked the Sky Captain, diesel punk aspect of the film. It also had a kind of Indiana Jones vibe.
I did have a few small problems with the film though.

- once Cap is commited to fighting Hydra i thought the film had too many montage action sequences which were out of context. Without showing the motive or context for the action scenes it kind of devalued their importance.

- I thought Hugo Weaving did a good job ( as always) but I thought he was underused and not a very competent villain.

- the ending, onboard the plane, it seemed like Cap could have done something else to prevent the outcome...it seemed like he just sat there, thought about all his possible options for the whole of two seconds and said "oh well, i guess this is it".

They were taking out all the multiple Hydra bases. To show each base as its own action scene would have gotten monotonous.

Yes, I know that... I mentioned it in my last post ("when cap is committed to fighting Hydra")
The scenes are till out of context in terms of specific details of the action scenes.

they could have reduced it to ONE base.
 
My 1 gripe was the Hydra weapons and vehicle design...Drove me nuts. I get that they are powered by the crystals and the technology was advanced but the design themselves look straight out of G.I. Joe. Other than that I enjoyed the film:thumbsup

I kept seeing the Cobra H.I.S.S. tank

I was wondering what version to see first, 3D or standard. I may see it in 3D first, then go a second time for a standard 2D Hi-Def prezentashun:)

Yes! Completely agree. An example of what I'm talking about: Cap riding his motorcycle being chased by the Hydra motorcycle gang... it's not a complete scene! It's just the pay-off. There's no beginning to it. Almost no escalation until he uses the trip wire and he's done. Too quick. Minimal effort on Cap's part. Kinda dull if you ask me.

Also the scene they show in the trailers where Cap is surrounded by flame thrower guys who have boxed him in and are 'tightening the noose'... leaving us wondering, 'Gee, what smart, ingenious move is he going to pull to get out of this?' Hey, guess what, he DOESN'T do anything. I felt ripped off.

Probably the best action sequence for me was Cap chasing the Hydra thief through the streets of the city. It was fun. Kinetic. It builds! There's emotion behind it (the dude just murdered Tucci!) It has surprises ("Don't worry about me, I can swim!" and that really cool submarine getaway attempt!

Anyway, I really did want to like this movie. And the bulk of it is fine. But I didn't think it was even close to being great.
 
Well, I probably am the most critical of all movie goers when concerning the this movie. I actually showed in full Captain Regalia (comic not movie) and came with the attitude that I was going to critique this honestly and frankly.

At the midnight showing, I had gone to work that day at 4a. No nap was available because of a lot of things i needed to do that day. So upon entering the theater I had been up for 19 hours and when the movie started it had been 20 hours awake for me.

That said, I never once yawned, felt sleepy or remotely bored, tired or annoyed. I could stop there and you would have the best thumbs up a movie could get...but I won't.

There were Hollywood changes to the origin and transitions of the character in both Steve and Cap. However, and i find it hard to believe i am saying this, I felt those changes made the experience more believable than the comics and brought me closer to the character.

At points in this move I literally "Felt" for Steve and his struggles. The movie brought me in emotionally and physically. The fights were not over the top unbelievable nor was there lack of "Super Hero" style action. Overall the movie was Darker than I had expected and I was ecstatic for that.

As for the Actors: Captain America was played perfectly at this point, I hope they show him more mature and confident in the next movie though.

The Red Skull was absolutely on Target. This character was played out in award winning bad guy form.

Tommy Lee brought the perfect amount of humor and seriousness to the parts he was given as expected.

And all of the sub-character developments were mixed in just the right amounts to add too the movie without taking away from the title...Captain America.

I give this movie 2 thumbs up, a 5 star rating and the Captain America Seal of approval. If you miss this one on the big screen you have done yourself a great disservice.
 
LOVED IT!!!! This is easily competing for beating "Iron Man" in my opinion of origin movies.

They supposedly made several "Raiders" jokes beyond the digging for trinkets. I think at the end when the Red Skull is holding the Cosmic Cube it kind of looks like he's burning up like the Nazi when the Ark was opened. And the blue swirling effect when the Cosmic Cube was emitting energy seemed like the spirits when the Ark was opened.
 
i guess....i am the only one that thought it was just good, but not great......

maybe, if i watch it again when it comes out on dvd then i will like it a little bit more.....

the casting was great.........the guy who played howard stark and tommy lee jones were enjoyable to watch.......and enjoyed the few rocketeer tibits inside....

i'm kinda getting sick of this whole avenger tie in crap.......nick fury didnt have to be in the film.....

Not much of a Chris Evans fan, but from what I've seen in reviews, he fits the role very well...I was afraid I'd go into it still kinda annoyed by him like I was throughout both Fantastic Four movies, but I'm excited now!
 
I was never really a Captain America fan, although he was unmistakably one of the first Marvel characters I was ever introduced to. As for comics? The only issue I have is an old one I picked up at a New York convention for the specific purpose of having it autographed by the creater who was there that day. Still haven't read it to this day... BUT LOVE THE MOVIE!!!

Saw it two nonconsecutive times yesterday. I felt like a kid cheering on his favorite superhero/role model. Perfect cast, performance, directing, visual effects and balance. DC can't touch Marvel. Marvel's where it is, always was and probably always WILL.

Imagine how much more exciting it would've been if the end scene to Thor was a clip of the beginning of Capt America (excavation revealing his shield) instead of the glowing cube! My intuition says The Avengers will be HUUUGE. All anticipation has been building up to this one.

Question: Howard Stark states that the shield is made of vibranium, so what did Tony create? There were people saying Tony creates vibranium when the last Iron Man was out, but his stuff is clearly something new, unprecedented and unnattainable by his father, hence the passing of the torch.

I'm certain what you actually meant was "The best superhero movie of all time". If you honestly believe this is the greatest movie in history, you need to watch a LOT more movies. Though I thought it was pretty good, I certainly wouldn't put it up on my top 50 movies of all time.
 
If Cap's shield is totally vibration free, am I wrong in thinking that it shouldn't make any noise? Even when a bullet hits it or it's thrown.

And there was a surprising lack of military haircuts.

I also felt that the opening present day sequence sure took a lot of potential suspense out of the picture for folks who didn't know.
