I actually had a fan letter published in a Seventies issue of Marvel's Captain America comic book, so I go way back with this. I was a bit disappointed. Sure it's a good looking movie. But it felt at times more like a highlight reel. Disconnected. Supporting soldier team cast? No time to even learn their names! Chris Evans was solid but didn't do enough to let me emotionally connect to Cap. That's probably the biggest let down for me. I thought he was a bit dull. And the villain was pretty standard too. Although the red skull prosthetic or CGI effect was great. Terrific set design and cool sci-fi machinery reminiscent of Jack Kirby drawings. The sub, the motorcycles, the big wing, all the vehicles and weaponry rocked. But I thought the romance was largely wasted and the supporting characters weren't memorable.
Tucci was enjoyable though. Wish he was in it longer.
BTW, my favorite super hero movies are X-Men 2, Spider-Man 2, Dark Knight, and the first Iron Man. So you can calibrate my taste accordingly. See it if you're hard core. There's plenty to like... just not love. Pass if you're only curious.
