Wife wanted to do "Cap and Peggy Carter" for our Anniversary/Halloween party this year so I decided to go with the TFA Rescue suit (She's putting together the "Peggy Carter Blue Suit" from the TV show).
While I would love for my Rescue suit to be perfect, I also don't want to break the bank assembling it so I have made a few budget conscious decisions which I am hoping will still turn out a respectable costume. Mainly, I am cutting a few details from the initial build (Knife, knife sheath, holster, pistol, Etc.) and trying to come up with some budget saving work around ideas for some of the more expensive items on the standard build list.
My outfit so far: ($460 spent..)
* M1 NATO Helmet, Blue with WWII Paratrooper liner ($41 helmet, $22 liner, Ebay auctions, In-hand)
* Reinforced, M1942 Jump Trousers, Dark Khaki, Size 36" (Reproduction) ($28 - Ebay auction, In-hand)
* M1938 Garters/Leggings, Dark Khaki, size R3 (Reproduction) ($13 - Ebay, Awaiting Delivery)
* M1923 cartridge belt, Brown (Reproduction) ($25 - Awaiting Delivery)
* Paratrooper Gloves, Tan (Reproduction) ($12 - Amazon, In-hand)
* M1936 Suspenders, Khaki (Reproduction) ($20 - Ebay - Awaiting Delivery)
* Map case, Strap, Khaki (Reproduction) ($20 - Ebay, Awaiting Delivery)
* Custom Made Leather Jacket, Cowhide ($118 - Ebay, Awaiting Delivery)
* AN-6530 Frames ($22 Ebay, Authentic, hoping to restore somewhat inexpensively, Awaiting Delivery)
* Cheap "Vintage Aviator Goggles" ($10 Amazon, Awaiting Delivery
* Boots - Eastland Men's High Fidelity Chukka Boot ($27 Amazon, In-hand)
* Aluminum Shield, Battle Damaged appearance (Ebay - $100, In-hand)
The Eastman boots are these: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01A8KCGYO/
Eastman Boots
... I got them for a steal at $27 last week and while they aren't Corcoran Jump Boots I believe that under the leggings that they will be close enough that no one outside of a WWII Drill Sargent would notice.
The AN-6530 frames are going to be rebuilt with some parts I am salvaging from a cheap pair of "Vintage Aviator" goggles that I picked up off Amazon for $10 and a piece of clear scrap sheet plastic that I will cut fake lenses from. I am hoping that I can take the padding and strap from the cheap goggles and rig them onto the AN-6530 frames. They won't be wearable as goggles in that state but will probably pass in appearance when strapped onto the front of the Helmet.
The Leather Jacket is being made by Superior Leather Garments. Other people here seem to have had good luck with this particular jacket from them. Due to my size, I had to have them make it custom so I sincerely hope that it turns out correctly but won't know for another 3-4 weeks when it gets here. (Fingers crossed)
The Helmet I have is NATO surplus and so it is already in NATO blue. My original plan was to paint it a bit darker shade of blue however after looking at this picture of Evans out in daylight..

.. I may just leave it alone and add an "A" to it as the helmet there actually appears to be a (dirty) NATO blue in color.
I'll be adding pictures of my stuff as more pieces arrive and esp. of my progress with the AN-6530 "Restoration".
