Captain America Shield from satellite dish

Thanks for the kind words, not really an 'original' idea, I just hadn't seen someone take the dish and make a movie version out of it yet. One of my concerns is in thinking ahead to the paint, I want to use a duplicolor anodized paint, but am afraid that the bondo holes will show through since I know that the duplicolor anodize is more of a 'clear' coat paint to let the metal shine through, any ideas?

There are a number of good metallic paints used for painting miniatures that should do the trick on the bondo if your paint is anything like the krylon Xcolors stuff. Games Workshop has really good metallics for $3 a bottle.

Even drybrushing with a $1 bottle of Testor's silver might be a good place to start.

I think Rub-n-buff would be too light but there might be another shade the local places don't carry that someone knows about.

Yeah I was thinking of dry brushing some testor's metallic silver that I have and seeing what that looks like. I will hit up the hobby shop and see what they have and go from there.

Just blew my mind right now, with all of this awesome cobbling skills!

hah Thanks! I'm hoping to one day get ahold of one of Chris' shields, but since I am limited on the moolah right now then I had to come up with something. I also got an awesome Tyler Stout Captain America poster from Mondo that I will be framing and putting up beside this once its all finished up!

Just a quick little update, I got the star at a more proportional size to the center section, I also cut some rivets to look at the sizing. I think I may just make 'rivets' out of some aves epoxy since I think these look a little big. Enjoy!

Also realized you can see that I boogered up that center circle pretty bad tonight working on it, not sure if I can buff/sand out those scratches but hopefully i can

Another quick update, I had about 20 minutes this morning and worked on making fake rivets to go onto the edges of the star. I mixed a little too much aves so I have plenty of 'rivets' to choose from. I plan on filing these just a bit to smooth them and then coating them with a silver metallic model paint, should be pretty believable.

This is a good idea, especially for folks who don't have room for a full sized shield. I'd wait until spring and see if the sleds go on sale after the winter.

That is such a fantastic idea! I've had my old Dish 500 sitting in the basement for almost 3 years now. I think I may have finally figured out what to do with it...

Looking forward to following your progress, so far, so good!

Saw on another thread that the spots I thought were rivets appear to be small polished circles along the tips of the star, interesting!

While I'm trying to figure out some things thought I'd ask if anyone has a good idea on how to scribe the lines on the star? (see picture for detail info) Also an update of the star test fitted on the shield...not too shabby methinks!

Hahaha funny thing, i just found a few of these in my back yard earlier today and i'm gonna try it out

Yea mine's rounded, but the handles take away a good 3 inches to the diameter so after cutting its about 21 inches or less, and it kinda flattens out without the curved rim. But it flew like 60 feet in my first toss! I still gotta go get it lol

Haha Definitely a benefit if it flies. I think mine would legit hurt someone if I threw it, the edges cut me a bit when I was sanding it (which means I need to sand it even more!).

This is so cool! I can't wait to see the finished pics. I gotta watch the movie!

Thanks! I am working tonight, tomorrow I am going to do some sanding and buffing to get a nice smooth finish on the front (hopefully!). Then I am going to go this weekend and look for paints, woohoo!
