captain america scaled costume buildup...

i started this thing a few months back, i ordered 3000 aluminum scales and rings from the ring lord adn went to town but after all i am not very happy with it, though its my first combo scale/fabric costume, when i started i just didnt know enough about scales to do a fantastic job, however i did gain the assistance of a friend to help me get it done in time... the scales were powdercoated instead of getting them anodized in the first place. the powdercoat didnt take like i had hoped so i ended up repainting them a slightly darker color, and that left a cool lighter under blue darker out blue definition, however the scales lay in a funky place to allow them to be done right. the star i was going to rivit a steel star to it but ended up painting them instead, if i were to rivit them wrong i wouldnt have enought time to fix it... the shirt is 4 way stretch lycra, with a mock turtle neck giving it a high profile so the mask can be tucked. the maks is the same blue fabric with a molded leather face sewn to it, the face part is darker. its all held on with indistrial strength velcor, attached to leather strips under the armor and sewn to the shirt. im not completly happy with it, but i do think this was one of the coolest learning experiances ive had... and i PRAY that capvermont is gonna like it (damn cops make lives hard on people lol)
anyway without further to do the build up and finished pics...

the mask was pretty cool to do, i made a lycra mask to a basic pattern, cut and molded some leather then sewed it on, then painted it a darker color...

Pretty cool so far. I would highly recommend building it over a muscle suit though to give you a 'heroic proportion' when wearing the costume.

The scale armor looks great. A lot of the Captain america's end up looking a little disco ish, but yours looks great. Good work!

Have you tried making the white star out of something seperate and putting that on top of the scales? I didn't think it had the scaled texture in the comics.

thanks, i try to make them more realistic as possible, not the one you would buy off the rack...

I am a big fan of scale armor, and made a scale armor for a Roman Centurion that can be seen on the front cover of my book. It took about 7,000 scales.

I'd love to see your pics, but like the other two posters, I think your site is down now. Please post them again.
