Captain America Avengers Costume 2012 WIP - ceije

Man when they say wait seven days for that paint to cure they mean it. Shield is clear coated and buffed and below are the images for the hardware for the rear of the shield. Made from leather and aluminum and some rivets I had laying around.

Placed on the rear of the shield w/ JB weld (not sure how it will hold, I'll update)

The star looks great! You gave me inspiration to go back and put the metal on my shield for the star.
Where can you find copper epoxy? Lowe's ?

Thanks.
You can find it at home depot but I'm guessing lowes would have it too. I think Gorilla glue makes it. Bonded perfectly on the star

Update: Copper epoxy and JB Weld can mix and create one hell of a bond. I started with just JB weld on the rear brackets and they were flimsy so I mixed Copper epoxy with slightly cured JB weld and now it holds up to 20 lbs of weight.

If you ever have a problem with the bond on the handles, try increasing the surface area of the metal brackets that glue to the shield, so you can spread the load out more.

Thanks Chris, I'm going to do that on the next shield. so it goes with the curvature more.

Since I'm sitting here waiting for costume supplies to come in, my idle hands need to work so for now this is what I came up with... Just the paint job. Helmet is pre fab.

Thanks for all the kudos. Much appreciated.

I've sewn my first part to the costume tonight and my first time ever sewing anything not by hand.

They are pretty simple gauntlets for the gloves I have coming in. I used forearm CE armor from a motorcycle jacket I had then made some socks for them cut out a center hole to slide them in and my arm then to keep them tight another hole for my thumb. I may tweak them here or there but for now they are good. I have a red webbed belt I'm using for the straps.

Gloves came in today. I'm trying a fabric paint first. It's thinner and hopefully drys thinner than leather paint. Keep you updated. takes 4 hours to dry...

My wife would kill me if she knew I was doing this on the dining room table

With a little bit of brush touch up on the red it came out great. Perfect red I was going for and holds well with the leather and doesn't crack. Only thing is I forgot my color wheel and went to paint blue on the palms and it took a few brushed on coats and a blow dryer to set right.

I've come to learn I can work with metal but cloth and sewing is not my strong suit. But I'm giving it a shot anyways and then I'll rework it as I go (lots of crooked lines)

I finally finished the helmet with the ear pieces attached as of 15 minutes ago
