I want to cast a sculpted helmet i made to make a plaster mold and I was wondering if I can heat up any of those plastics and press them into the mold to make a plastic copy that I can wear. Is it strong enough and does it capture detail well? Also, how hard is it to sand it smooth and cut it?

Good for pressmolds. The warmer (freaking hot) you've got it, the better the detail it will capture, though the capture will still be pretty soft. It sands terribly, but you can always reheat and smooth the surface. It cuts with a hot knife well. I've never seen anyone paint it with much success, but you could conceivably pigment it.

To resurrect a really old thread, I bought some Instamorph specifically to use in a mold of a police badge that I sculpted for an upcoming project and I had rather good success with it.
