Can we delete our own posts?

Just wondering if the forum software would support an option for the original poster to be able to delete the thread entirely. Would be very helpful in for sale threads and such where We all see "Please delete me" replacing the title. Kinda of makes it possible for us to clean up our own messes as it were. Just a thought.

It also allows the users to stir up flames and then gives them censorship ability over other users differing opinions, or at least I have seen it abused this way on every forum it was enabled...

Nice in concept almost always abused it practice...

Only if you allow deletion of individual posts. limit it to the whole thread, and it all goes away. If the stirring of flames (not supposed to be condoned a lot on this board according to CoC.) Is generated by the thread starter, then the Mods can due their normal duty. If on the other hand a flame is directed at the thread starter and it becomes too much for them to want to deal with, its gone. Can't start the flames without matches.

Once again, exoray nailed it. The Junkyard does seem to be a good candidate for allowing members to delete their own threads, but inevitably the feature would be abused by a seller who hasn't come through with his/her end of the deal and they would just delete the thread to remove the evidence of their responsibility.

I really don't understand that?

If you give the user the ability to delete the whole post at will that is still the ability to censor at will...

Example, John Doe ask for some help on a prop, lots of people contribute to said thread it's 5 pages worth of uber good information... Well John Doe decides he want's to 'profit' from that info, so wham all that info immediately censored from public view, irregardless of the other contributors input they get censored as well...

Like I said I have seen it happen way to many times on public forums... And like I said a good idea if it was not abused, but truth is it will be abused...

I see your point, as it pertains to that type of post. My initial thought was for helping to clean up the junkyard as there is not usually a discussion going on there. Its either for sale or its not, sold or not.
