Can Bondo go bad?

I've had my Bondo sitting in a closet of the house for about a year unused. I popped it open the other day and it had some separated greasy liquid puddling on top of the gray paste. I mixed it up real good, added the red stuff from the tube, and got a non-drying paste.

The closet gets cold pretty easy, could temperature and age have ruined my Bondo?

I opened my bondo yesterday, had the same greasy oil on top, mixed it thouroughly and applied the hardner, work fine. You might not have put in enough hardner in there to setup properly by the sound of it. Mines been sitting on the shelf for a year too btw.

In some cases, I think that the hardener goes bad and won't kick the reaction properly.

The hardener was a bit greasy too. I actually tried adding too much as well, but it still didn't dry or harden.

It should come out a kind of reddish pink color once the bondo and hardener are mixed properly right? What's a good ratio of hardener to paste?

also if the hardner sits for a awhile, you have to kneed the tube to mix its contents, otherwise it will come out too wattery.

Hmm... I think I'll try using mine again before I toss it. Any thoughts on a good ration of hardener to bondo paste?

well besides reading the directions on the can, which i never tend to do anymore :lol , best way i do is just mixed a drop or two with the bondo till it changes slightly in color, from grey to a real light red/grey, work time is a few minutes, if you want to run it hot and harden in a minute, the mix ratio color will be a nice pink/red color after mixing the two together. You want to wait about 20 min or so before you start to sand too btw. pm me if you have any other questions.
