Russrep is working on a custom belt buckle for me, but has asked me for better drawings of what I need (from many different angles) or a CAD design.
I don't have those kinds of skills, but I want something like
Here's what that rough sketch is supposed to be:
Imagine a belt buck that doubles as a batarang holder (and holds two folded 'rangs in a recessed rang-shaped cavity).
Russ is going to make two, custom, folding "batarangs" that can be stuck together where hinged, using magnets so that a) it looks like the two folded batarangs that are stuck together look like just one batarang when viewed from the front and b) the magnets that stick the two together (for storage) also allow the individual rangs to stay flat when flicked open. There would also be another set of magnets hidden inside the rangs that a) help the rangs stay closed when folded and b) help the rangs to stay attached to the belt buckle when not in use.
You can see a demonstration of magnets used in this manner (without the belt buckle as a holder) at
YouTube - Batarang Video.m4v
I'd like to have these rangs stored together, nestled inside a recessed nook in a belt buckle. I need to be able to draw that to show him what I mean.
Here is an initial sketch. Imagine that the black parts are the highest parts, the dark gray parts are recesses in the batarangs, and the light gray parts are just tapers going down to a sharp point:
Another guy also had an interesting idea on the BotB. He said:
"Springs, could also be INSIDE the rangs, making them bigger once unsheathed from the buckle (think buzz lightyear wings.)"
I don't know if this "Buzz Lightyear" wing-popping action is doable or not, but it sure sounds cool.
At any rate, I will need some way to be able to pry the rangs out of the buckle when wearing gloves, so maybe the rangs could even extend over the edges of the buckle a bit. *I'm flexible on this idea:
I am thinking the buckle would be the general shape of a rectangle, but stylized with a professional, finished looking edge trim. The buckle would be between 3.75 to 4 inches high. Maybe if the buckle was 100mm high and 165mm wide, then the rangs could be somewhere around 150mm long (75mm folded).
I would like to add a little design dimensionality to the rang, too-- similar to the ones shown at
I would need the buckle and rangs to be thin and lightweight and not cause the belt to droop. The actual belt I will use this with will be a tan #41PBT2DE Patrol Belt/Pad Blackhawk tactical belt and pad.
Can anyone help me show Russ what I need?
