Anyone ever light the POLAR LIGHTS C-57 ship from Forbidden Planet?
I'm trying to think of a way to get the spinning bottom dome as seen in the film. Was there a spinning piece inside the dome? Or was it done like the nacelles on the original ST. Advice? Help?

Thanks,
Scott:cool

You know it dawned on me I might have put this in the wrong modeling section. Mods please move if it is. :$

You might try searching on the modeling sites, such as

starshipmodeler.com
hobbytalk.com
culttvman.com

The Polar Lights kit is cool, but the top and bottom domes are too small and shaped wrong (among other errors)...

Incidentally I believe the domes on the original TOS Enterprise did have a spinning element of some kind. The Xmas lights blinked, but this did not impart a rotating effect.

I know that MIM (Monsters in Motion) had a listing for a C-57D light kit back when the Polar Lights kit was first released. But it disappeared after a while. Then I saw a "one-off" light kit for the C-57D on an auction site that went for a pretty good chunk of change shortly after that. About 3 or 4 years ago.

I would love to see an after market top and bottom dome retro-fit kit. The kit supplied ones do not incite me to build the one in my stash.

Was there a spinning piece inside the dome? Or was it done like the nacelles on the original ST.

The two effects were achieved in a very similar manner, which is to say both approaches incorporated spinning "pin-striped" inner-domes illuminated from within by an electric light source (i.e. blinking, multicolor X-mas lights in the case of the Enterprise).

I've never seen the effect recreated in a fan-made C-57-D model, but it sure would be cool if someone would step up to the plate...

BTW, IIRC, The MiM light kit was nothing more than a re-purposed Jupiter 2 fusion core kit (i.e. an LED chaser circuit).
