C-3PO Replica Help & Recommendations

Hi all

I’m new to this forum and would appreciate any advice on valuing a C-3PO replica that I’ve just built - Hoping that I’m not breaking any rules by also asking what people think it would be worth if I sell it ?

Having recently acquired a 3D printer, this is my first attempt and building a Star Wars droid, so it’s not perfect by any means, but I’m pleased with the result for a first attempt - I probably should have picked something simpler, but it’s been a great learning experience.

I believe that the 3D model files I used were scaled down to 95% to make printing easier - I believe the model is based on the Jesse M C-3PO costume files.
I built a pipe frame skeleton and I’m looking at ways of adding some strength to the model to make taking and re-assembling easier, as it’s been built to be a static display model - has anyone used self-expanding foam for this purpose ?

Currently, he’s not physically attached to the stand, but can support himself and is surprisingly well balanced - I do plan to attach the feet to the base using flange attachments, but haven’t gotten around to this yet.

The eyes light up and the colour can be changed using a remote control, as can the LED light under the display stand.
I’ve also added a speaker in his head which connects to a sound effects board and 4 buttons on his back pack (visible in the photos) that play C-3PO quotes, “Hello sir, my name is C-3PO” etc.

The gold paint is Plasti-Kote, and was applied over a base primer, followed by a gloss black enamel, 2K clear coat, and finally the gold paint.
I’ve had some issues with the paint not 100% curing and even several weeks late it’s still a little prone to finger prints - I suspect I applied it too thick, but that’s down to my inexperience.

Thinking of selling this now to invest in the new Bambu H2D 3D Printer & Laser cutter, so I’d be interested to get peoples thoughts on what I’d likely get if I sold him ?
It’s a difficult thing to value, and whilst materials cost only a few hundred £, it took many hours of work to get it to where it is.

Many thanks

Though I can't apraise it, it is a wonderfully put together droid :)
Many thanks ☺️

A few thing I’ve learned building it ….

- Don’t print in PLA as it’s very difficult to sand.
- Don’t spray the paint in too thick coats - More lighter coats would probably not have resulted in the extended curing time.
- Wait longer between paint coats - I was too impatient
- I used Bondi putty to help remove layer lines, but it’s very expensive in the UK so I need to find an alternative.
- More putty and more sanding would have given better results

PETG is pretty good for larger builds like this. Sands easier and is stronger. I know some people use SLA resin to smooth layers before filler primer but I've never tried it. A hairdryer can help to speed up paint but I would suggest to just wait it out.

Looks fantastic! I would be proud. What gold did you use?

Thank you ☺️
I used the PlastiKote metalic gold paint that I bought from Amazon as detailed in the below link.
I was pleasantly surprised at how reflective it is on a good surface.
