Building the X-Wing

Short update :)
The wings have been painted but no weathering yet.
I tried to get the chipped paint as accurate as possible on the red markings :)
This is what my workplace is looking right now :D
Will start the weathering tomorrow and hope to get good 'ole X-Wing ready by the weekend.
Will keep you posted B)

LOL Not Mine Super :lol but it is gorgeous nonetheless

That work space looks familiar. I finally cleaned mine up yesterday. I found several things I thought I didn't have that I went out and bought again, now I have spares.

That ship is looking great.

I see you also use translucent inks, am I correct? I've used these and they can create some great effects.

Yes, absolutly. I use the translucent airbrush colors from "Schminke". Very common here in Germany. That is the stuff i used for much of the weathering as you can wipe it with your finger if too much :)

Ok, i am ready now :D

I have some problems with the stand, the X-Wing is a tad too heavy for my support-system...
So i have to built a new one which will be absolutly safe. This will take a while but i wanted to show you some photos before :)

Please note .: The photos are not really good, i will take better ones when the new stand is ready and will use a black background. Please ignore the dumb background for now ;)
The photos have been taken without the flash to show how the colors look in real life so they are all a little blurry...but better blurry than falsified.
Because of the lack of flash it's all very dark there, but when i do the new photos i will have good lights :)
Finally please mind this will NOT be the final place for the X-Wing :D I will give it a worthy spot .

Fantastic.

I'm cleaning and filling mine now and if it comes out 1/10th as good as yours I will be thrilled.

Great job.

Beautiful work, Spiker.

I'm impressed by your entire build... but want to congratulate you in particular on how much your little Luke figure actually looks like Mark Hamill.

Great job. :thumbsup :thumbsup :thumbsup

It is the R2 from the AMT E3 Anakin Jedi Fighter Snap Kit (Thanks to PHArchivist for the hint :D ). Much better than the R2 which comes with the kit.

I finally opened my AMT kit for the R2 figure-- to quote Luke, "What a piece of JUNK." The idiot who thought the dome should be assembled in a left and right half should be hung by his toes. Ugh-- soft detail lines, blobby would be the right word for it. Did yours start out that way, too, or did you luck out and get a good mold?

Gads. The rest of the AMT kit seems ok, so I won't beeyach about it.

I think for my CCXW I'm going to go with my original plan- I had a friend copy the R2 and cast it in clear resin, so I can light it. I'm going to stay with the rest of the kit as non-lit, though.

Your "lousy pictures" look great, by the way. :thumbsup

Hm, my R2 was great from the start. Ok, that it comes in halfs was dumb from AMT but i sanded and primed it well.

Here 2 comparison shots of Red 5:

Your CCXW is a thing of beauty, definitely a show stopper. Now if only Captain Cardboard would do a Y-wing to go with it... *prayer* :angel *prayer*

Spiker,
Outstanding work. The comparison pics really show how much detail you put into your weathering.
I wish I could afford one of these kits.
Eric

Great work. I really like the comparison pics you took comparing yours to the real Red Five.
Congrats.

Spiker - Did you fabricate Luke's clear amber visor or did you get if from another kit?

I made it myself from a sheet of yellow foil. The only thing i used from another kit was the R2. Everything else is from the CC kit or scratchbuilt.
