Hey everyone. I saw Mandy not long ago, and I was blown away. If you haven't seen it, run don't walk to your nearest video on demand device. The thing that caught my eye though, was the wild looking battleaxe that Nicolas Cage forges to fight the crazy evil. I knew right then and there that I had to have her. Sadly, I don't have the materials to forge anything, so it's gonna be foam. EVA foam, to be precise. It's still in progress (I have to dig out the dremel and do some tests on the scrap) but I figured I'd post my progress as I'm pretty proud of it so far. Be kind, it still has a LONG way to go.
This is the picture I based it off of, the Beast in all its chrome glory.
And here is the tracing I did of it because I didn't have access to my regular laptop or GIMP. I ended up just using the screen of my chromebook for a lightbox.
Scanned and cleaned up. I then put this in the ol' rasterbator, it took me a few times to get it to the right proportions (it should be about 4 feet long).
The full size template, which I transferred to a bit of cardboard that's currently hanging on my wall.
And here's the foam that's been cut out from the template. As you can see, it's very rough.
From here I have to reinforce it with some hobby wood, glue the 4 pieces together, cut it down, dremel it, seal it, prime and paint it (a lot of paint), and then finish it off with a clear coat.
Bonus: my attempts at 3D modeling a keychain beast.
