Building a TMNT II Secret Of The Ooze Canister (Finished pictures added to page 2!)

Firstly I'm a long time lurker first time poster.... I searched high and low for one of the machined replicas and then I decided to take it upon myself to go ahead and build one. My friend and I took on the task of building a proton pack a few years ago and I still love that thing!

Anyhow here is where I've been so far with my friend.....
I first decided what to use and thought about using PVC pipe and PVC couplings however I wanted it to be translucent so I found acrylic pipe 3'' OD and a foot long. This was a great sized piece as well as for my budget at only 8.00 on ebay. I then bought PVC couplings for the caps, acrylic 8x10 sheets to cut and cap off the top of the caps and the top of the acrylic pipe because I was actually putting ooze inside that I didn't want to leak out or dry up. I bought some water tight amazing goop for sealing and adhesive. I'm using a cricut to get the logo just right and more acrylic sheeting for the plates.

For the ooze I bought color slime from the dollar tree (15 cans) to be exact and it's just like the ecto plazm and ooze of the 80's that we all grew up with. I had to get one of every other color for nostalgia's sake. :)

I wanted it to light up at night so I tried several methods and settled on putting 48 green LED's on a string and put a smaller tube inside of the middle of the slime so it will glow at night but be diffused in the center of the ooze itself.

I'll show you where it started at and testing and where it's at now. It's about 50% done at this point...

tried this configuration at first it wasn't enough

as you can see didn't light it up all the way.

then tried this

that didn't work so I went with this

running all of them on 2 AA

that caused small circles to show so I tried this and it was the winner

bent them in and it works great.

Here is the canister filled with ooze

now gotta start cutting the windows in the caps and creating the plates

Re: Building a TMNT II Secret Of The Ooze Canister

thanks guys! You can see the smaller tube down inside it that the lights sit in and that's going to have a piece of plexiglass sealed around it so the ooze is sealed in but the lights aren't for easy repair. :)

Re: Building a TMNT II Secret Of The Ooze Canister

thats awesome! The lights look fantastic

Also Slimesquare this is why I wanted a foot soldier mask from you :) I have a leo from propshop coming and I wanted to display the masks on either side of the ooze canister.

Very cool! Looks like that was fun making your own little DNA strand out of LEDs! :lol. Subscribed! :popcorn:thumbsup

Re: Building a TMNT II Secret Of The Ooze Canister

Ok I may just be down for one of those I would love to have one in my office at work. I cant wait until you are finished and have a price. Please tell me you are going to sell these.

Re: Building a TMNT II Secret Of The Ooze Canister

looks awesome! can't wait to see this complete :) I got one on my list of projects to do too

Re: Building a TMNT II Secret Of The Ooze Canister

That slime can be made with elmers clear glue and borax the web site Instructables has a how to if you add silver glitter to it you can have the goo from the Manhattan project also

Re: Building a TMNT II Secret Of The Ooze Canister

Hey if you don't mind me asking what's the measurements on the PVC you're using? I want to try this but I think I'm going to go with speedy metals.com. They'll cut metal to size if you've got a way to bore the detail holes yourself

Re: Building a TMNT II Secret Of The Ooze Canister

thanks for all the comments everyone- haha it does look like DNA.

I probably won't be selling them as I have a ton of other projects to work on and little time. I have 2 kids and I manage a call center so I am soooo busy always.

I test fitted the caps after sanding the inside down with a dremel (there is a lip on the inside of the couplings) I sanded it down to where it would fit snug so one side I can glue and the other side I can slip off to get to the batteries. As Ace Ventura would say "Like a glove!"

Now that I test fitted those I measured out the plexiglass for the TGRI plates and got the measurements to have the cricut cut out the logo.

Re: Building a TMNT II Secret Of The Ooze Canister

oh and the measurements are 3 inch PVC couplings, but you have to be careful because oddly enough different brands of 3 inch PVC couplings are larger or smaller. I originally bought 3 inch PVC couplings from Home Depot before the Acrylic Pipe got here and they ended up being way too big, so I went to Lowes and found other 3 inch PVC couplings that fit perfectly.

Re: Building a TMNT II Secret Of The Ooze Canister

As far as making the ooze goes with borax and glue- I've done that before, but it wasn't the same consistency or color as what I was going for with this.
