Build thread: 1:1 Halo Warthog- build diary online

Well the idea is that it COULD pass the mot- not sure how realistic this is with regards to lights and safety, but Ive tried to keep this in mind.
Send me your CV then- my email is on the blog?

Reminds me of the Scrapheap Challenge Wacky Races where their crazy cars had to pass MOTs to travel between destinations. Definitely a matter of all the lights being where they should, and no concave curves tighter than the outside of a knee.

Email sent away.

Peter showed this on the 405th and it's amazing. We made a news about it on Halo.fr too.

If you'd like to join the 405th, drop a email to Adam.

Cheers-
Its been more problem solving than building at the moment, but I have started the cladding now so its beginning to look more like the real thing ;-)

Looks great so far , what are you going to clad the subframe with to get the body shape ? Good luck with the MOT on this but i share your sceptisim there :lol It could always be trailered to events though i suppose. What part of the UK are you in by the way I think we have chatted online before , did you do a few VWs and a speedster once?

Ha !
yes I have made a few VW's- I drive my custom VW flamed 2 seater, and built a jet black wizard that I sold to SteveWilts (?) on the VZI board.? Currently I am doing a 356b coupe....

I am cladding it in bendy 5mm ply, but it will then be fibreglassed onto the frame itself as one piece, a bit like how they make boats and surfboards. The wood just becomes a support to the fibreglass whilst it cures. Lots of sanding but it should be really strong then ;-)

HI Guys,
Ive been able to spend a few evenings on the old Warthog project so heres a quick pic of the current progress:

I have finished the bulk of the exterior cladding, which for now is in 5mm bendy ply.
This has been pop riveted to the bodies framework, and will be fibreglassed to join the entire structure into one big shell. Same way as boats are made, I guess. Once this is finished I will start the detailing- I have started on the dash already, this is quite an old shot which doesnt reflect how cool its looking :)
