BttF3 Doc Brown's Custom Scoped Rifle

Challenged a fellow Comic Con goer in 2010 to make it for the next con. No time like the present... or the past.

Working on top of a winchester yellow boy replica and I'm pretty pleased with the dimensions so far.
Hope to post a photo of the completed prototype soon.

I've been researching octagon barrels, but they are very expensive. So the best way would be to know the size of the movie barrel and make an extra long one out of wood on a table saw. Then paint it gun metal black.

Another piece that is also a stumper is the sight reticle at the end of the rifle. I've seen this piece a few times in my life, but I can't find what it's actually called or where to find it.

i imagine with all the talent on this board someone could 3d print the scope brackets, and even sight, then vacuum metallize them. maybe machine a new barrel... do they make no firing rifles? i dont remember the name of this rifle off the top of my head... was it called the "yellow boy" if they dont have any close replicas thats another problem trying to obtain the gun...

A lot of info on the rifle you need is on the first page. You can buy a close enough replica of the yellow boy on ebay. It's just missing one little rivet thing on the side and it has a round barrel, but that's gonna be changed out anyway.

I hope this thread gets revived. This is one of those props that hasn't been made yet, but needs to be.

Is someone still working on a replica of this ?

I'm attempting a DIY low-cost version for a friend who cosplays as Doc to my Marty,
Obviously not replica quality, as I don't have $100s to shell out willy-nilly, but should look the part.

Started with a Walmart Special:

Took it apart, painted the stocks and hardware mechs:

Cut PVC to length, drilled holes matching the alignment posts (for sturdiness and con-safety)
20170501_213653.jpg

Wrapped the extensions barrels in metallic wrap (I hate painting)
20170501_213818.jpg

Wrapped the exposed sections of the original barrels in metallic wrap as well:

And reassembled for starting scope measurements.

So far, so good.

Ever complete this?

Been talk of barrel lengths, octagonal versus round barrels, and 1866 versus 1892...

Looked over the thread to see if there was any differentiation between the Winchester 1866 Carbine versus the Winchester 1866 Rifle.

Page One of the thread has a post attesting the movie gun was likely an1866 rifle, (but we haven't chatted about Carbine vs. Rifle).

Looks like the Winchester 1866 Rifle indeed had the longer 24" octagonal barrel (similar to an 1860 Henry, but with a fore stock added).

I have a Denix Henry (which, again, lacks the fore stock), but I'm not sure they are still on the market.

The Denix Winchester 1866 Carbine is available, on Amazon right now at $205.

Problem with Denix is I can't stand that crappy patina gold finish... The film gun is beautiful glimmering brass or gold.

Then there is the loop lever...

Can buy a Denix 1892 replica and scavenge the lever, if it would work on the Henry or 1866 replicas. AND you'd have to have it plated.

Or you can buy a replacement lever but they're not cheap. And you'd still have to plate it.

Or you can look for something like this gun here!
