Made from the original Howlin' Wolf kit, with added leds for the engines, nuke, and sweeping eye. Base was lasercut from acrylic. This was made a couple years ago, but recently torn down and built back up a little "better".

Incredible!... truly killer.
Is Howling Wolf still making this or the Blackbird?
(missed them both, got on the BSG wagon a bit late here)

best,
KK

Awesome work, as always, Jason. I really like how you captured the texture they show during the close ups of the full-size Raider. And the electronics are a great touch! Did you design them yourself?

Fantastic!!!

Jason... what can I say that I have yet to say of your work? I have no choice but to repeat myself my friend...

MASTERFUL WORK!!! :eek:eek:love:love:love:love DUUUUUUUUUUUUDE!!! (y)cool:thumbsup

Thanks, fellas :)

Paint technique - you're gonna laugh.

Prime resin with auto primer.

Mist surface with spray adhesive, like 3M SUper 77, from a distance of about half a foot.

Let sit for a day or two, and it will stay tacky, but not as aggressive as it was initially. Then, wet your finger and gently smooth the surface down - the goal is to make it look like the CG surface. Kind of like a cast tank turret.

Reprime with black auto primer (laquer based). The adhesive base will still be tacky when you spray the primer, but the paint seems to lock it all down.

Once dry (hour or two), rub silver Rub-n-Buff over the surface.

Then, weather with pastels, seal with dullcoat, and then use various Allclad metal colors (airbrushed with an index card to mask panels off). I selectively went back in with Rub-n-Buff later, too.

________

You can probably get a similar effect by scumbling Mr. Surfacer 500 (from the jar) over the parts with a stiff brush and skip the spray glue steps, but they stopped importing it, so you have to get it from Hobbylink Japan now.

Wowwww....Wowwww....Wowwwww......most IMPRESSIVE !!!!

I like it....splendid....

Great work! Can you tell me a little more about your base, I really like the lettering.

Sure thing!
I had a slab of acrylic lasercut, and glued it together. The lettering is just etched into the surface, and I rattlecan bombed the whole thing with some gunmetal paint left over from my "Han Solo fronzen on a Back Door of Carbonite" house project, hehe.

I love the finish, though I'm curious... did you purposely desaturate it? Also, no wing markings...?
