HI . This is going to be my 1st attempt at a scratch build the Tubed ship( or as giftworks calls it the battery ship).I'm doing it to add to my fleet don't really know the real scale will be but it will be around 3 1/2" long when done. I just finished a template that i did to work off of ,and there aint a whole lot to go by so some of it will be my interruption we'll see how it comes out .I just ordered some rod stock so I'm going to do the platform 1st because i believe that i have enough stock to start that.

Cool! :cool

So what's that lifting body looking ship, approaching it?

Re: BSG Tubed vessel (Battery ship)

The cylinders look very very close to the shape of pulse rifle grenades with the caps off. Would make sense with the Sullaco in tow.

Re: BSG Tubed vessel (Battery ship)

Well so far so good. I glued 2 pc of 1/16 flat stock together to make the base .When i studied the picture of the ship it looked as if the area that the silos sit on are raised so i added another layer to that to.I'm gluing the center pc together now so this will be it for today.

Re: BSG Tubed vessel (Battery ship)

I worked on the head this afternoon But i think I'm going to re due the top notch its to deep for my liking. I also added some little pieces to the engine pod i didn't like it smooth looking it didn't look right. It also looks like the length will end up being 3 1/4" long

Re: BSG Pylon vessel (Battery ship)My 1st scratch build

My rod stock came in today here's my 1st pylon 90% done, the height looks about right .I was going to drill out the base plate and slide the pylons though but that's not going to work as i thought so it will be a lot easier to glue them in place one by one.

Re: BSG Pylon vessel (Battery ship)My 1st scratch build

Well i had a small set back ,i messed up the base plate when drilling it to try to attach the pylons so i went back to the drawing board and redid the base plate taking time to measure and double check the template. (the drilling idea has been caned ) I want it to be as nice as possible if it has a chance to get casted. I'm redoing the head and engine pod while I'm at it and it is a little bit longer at about 3 5/8 " here's pictures of what i redid today.

Re: BSG Pylon vessel (Battery ship)My 1st scratch build

OK here's the new head and engine pieces ,They are a little bigger and look more to scale with the rest of the model. The new overall length is 3.5".I just glued the little pieces of pylon on the bottom of the base plate so now it has to dry for a couple hours more photos will be coming later.

OK , i got another small idea along with the 4 small thrusters on the under side when i went to bed last night for the engine pod and i like it .This thread will be inactive for a little bit as i sent it to be casted this morning . The way you see it here is what the kit will look like.

Re: BSG Pylon vessel (Battery ship)My 1st scratch build

The cast came in today and i got it all together fairly simple. You will have to use a compass to make 1/2" circles (see picture) on the face of the base plate to no where to put the pylons for gluing and cut the pylons down to 13/16 from the top of the big pylon to the bottom (See picture) And make sure you glue the spine on the right way ( angle notch is engine end). I made a dumb mistake and didn't soak the pieces first so I'm doing it now so i can get all of the release agent off to paint it.
