BSG Cylon Sword - Research Thread

I'm working on a Cylon sword and I have the wrist guard and pommel (cast in resin). Does anyone know what kind of wood might have been used for the handle?

This black handle piece is my wooden original. Not sure what type of wood.

I have to agree with 'Apollo'. Any old piece of wood around the FX model shop was chosen for its proximity.

The grain looks like oak. Probably square stock turned on a lathe.

Looks like it was taken to a belt sander!

Can someone give me the thickness of the sword itself? I'm thinking it's somewhere between 1/8" and 3/8"?

Possibly. I just noticed turning tool marks.

I just finished watching the film, Cleopatra and I did not spot this prop amongst all of the different sword props that were used, so it's possible that this prop was originally used in a different film, possibly from the Medieval period. It's also possible that it was originally put together for LIS based on a previously used prop.
