Breaking Bad

Yeah, I remember they kept going back and forth, but I'm pretty sure the last thing I read said one "big" season.


I love that I cant even begin to guess what they'll do. Whatever the final events revolve around will most likely be things that haven't even happened yet. That being said, there are a few events I really hope are revisited before the series ends, such as:

- Will Jesse ever learn of Walt (practically) murdering Jane and/or poisoning Brock?
- What will Mike's return involve, and what will be his reaction to what happened to Gus?
- Who was Gus in Chile, and why was he even "off limits" to the biggest crime boss in Mexico?
- And (the obvious one) will Walt's cancer return and finally kill him?
 
Hec, if I remember correctly, one of the producers on the show said that Walt's evils may never come back up. I am not sure though, I could be hallucinating.

On another note, has anyone heard when season 4 might come out on DVD/bluray?

I wonder if the cover will really be the yellow Walt poster. On one hand, it breaks the pattern of Walt and Jesse on the cover, on another hand this whole season has been about Walt's dominance. So, in a way it could be appropriate.
 
That may be true - and wouldn't necessarily be bad if those things were never revisited - HOWEVER, There's no chance, in my opinion, of Walt ever reaching redemption without those things being retouched (which it is very likely that he wont).

I'm sure we wont see DVDs until right before the new season starts, just like with the last ones. Hell, its only 6 months now, if there isn't a release date announced yet, I doubt it will be before that. Here's hoping though...
 
Hmmm, you're right. I personally think that he will be redeemed. This has been his journey all along. The Odyssey didn't end with Odysseus dead in the water. So, maybe it will come back up. Probably not the poisoning thing but his guilt about Jane's death. Even though he didn't exactly cause it.
 
Wow!! Why didn't saw that earlier? I've been catching up BB, since a colleague recommended me watching it, since he knew I was doing the chemistry field. It's greatly done… have you read the scientific article praise about the accuracy of the science of BB?

Definitely on a BB Binge… ok, gotta see the next episodes…

But as to the second point, we talked a long time, my writers and I, about what exactly was Gus’s back story? How bad a dude did he have to have been, back in Chile, for the cartel to spare him, even though they were very insulted by his actions? And we went back and forth, we talked about Pinochet and his government, what did he do back there, precisely? And we borrowed a bit from “Pulp Fiction,” I suppose. Because in “Pulp Fiction,” Samuel L. Jackson and John Travolta are carrying around a briefcase, for the entire movie, that the contents of which are only hinted at. At one point, you see a glow emanating from inside the briefcase, but you never do find out for sure what it’s in it. And I always liked that, as a viewer. To me, the audience’s imagination as to who Gus was in his past life is potentially more interesting than any concrete answer we could give them.

Nice. I like that. His story was pretty much clean cut by the end of 4. It would be weird if they dug up a bunch of stuff on him later. Now, they should just be focusing on getting us to the finish line in the most interesting way possible.
 
I agree that next season should move on past Gus - but, I dont know... I feel like they were setting up some kind of big reveal this last season. I get what he's saying in the interview - that its better left to the viewer's imagination - but I thought for sure they had something in mind for later when I was watching! I want to know dammit! LOL. He does go on to say, however, that that doesn't necessarily mean the ramifications of Walt killing him wont still come into play.

What I'm really hoping is that they take the show back to its roots - where in season 1, much the dynamic of the show was making moral decisions, and at what point certain means were justified. With what was happening in season 4, this wasn't as much of a concern because it was basically Walt VS Gus, and he never needed to stop and wonder if killing a drug lord was "ok" or not.

I just watched season 1 again, and my god, just that whole episode where Walt is struggling with killing Krazy 8... its just so brilliant. I know Walt has changed, and something like that wouldn't bother him as much anymore - but I'd love to see more personal battles like that.
 
I agree that the themes of the show have evolved a bit but I think there is still moral ambiguity in the finale. Gus is given a pretty bittersweet ending. He deserved revenge as much as Hector. Jesse also asks "he had to go right?". He questions it because he now knows that Gus didn't poison Brock and it is no longer clear to him why Gus needed to be eliminated. Walt even gives a final, respectful glance at the "chicken man's" car. He knew what he had to do to protect everyone, but he still respected Gus.

So, I think that the show still asks the questions about morality. It is just in a subtler way.
 
Totally agree - the characters have changed so its only naturally that the way they deal with things will as well. We dont want to see the same thing happen every season... this isn't Dexter :p

I was so sad to see Gus go - such a great character and such a great performance... but still - he had to go, right? DAMN RIGHT.
 
Haha. It's so funny to go back and watch Giancarlo Esposito in Do the Right Thing- looking and acting crazy.
 
Blegh! This means that either the story is going to be written with two arches or we're going to be left off with an annoying and agonizing cliff-hanger!

AHHHH, it just hit me that she said the second half wouldn't shoot until winter of 2013.

WTF?

That's over a year of waiting!

Yeah, no kidding. Lame move.

The writers will make it work. I dont mind having it split as much as how long the gap in between is.

EDIT: Just realized "winter of 2013" probably means the beginning of the year. My first thought was December of 2013. THAT would be too long, lol.
