Breaking Bad Props

I didn't mean to offend anyone. Sorry if I did. I just am not a big costume guy anyways, more of a plain prop guy. For those that collect, and love costumes I know how important these must be to them.

No offense taken on my part. Everyone values things differently. No harm done.

LOVE seeing you wearing the shirt! Some people are so weird about that kind of thing and want to treat original pieces like a museum piece, but you better believe, every piece I buy that I can fit into, I have to try on at least once! Congrats on your win!
Yeah I am kind of one of those people who never open anything I collect. I actually bid on that lot, the shirt and nike pants just for the sole purpose of wearing them. I thought I would wear them on special occasions around the house, Christmas, etc. I put them on after getting them and now after one day I put them back in the bag. I'll probably be afraid to open the bag again lol.

I still have to figure out how best to display my winning items. I am thinking shadowboxes maybe in my office or on mannequins I think I would prefer, but those are a bit odd to have around the house. I wish I had glass cases to enclose them on mannequins.... I'll have to figure out how best to display them.

As you stated, these items to me are worth beyond any amount of money. I love the fact that I have items which were worn on the show and anytime any of my friends talk about it I can say - look at that scene there - I'm wearing that right now (if I could bare to take it out of it's protective bag!). I really love the hoodie I got from the wrap party Brian Cranston wore as Jessie as my friend was at that party and took photos of it - here's a link: https://www.flickr.com/photos/martinimike/3093351535/in/photostream/
so cool I can own that item from such a funny stunt they played. So anyways thanks again for helping us collectors who value these items as much as you do by auctioning them off, really appreciate that.

I am still killing myself to find this hoodie (replica of course) if anyone has any ideas:

It was amazing to me that items from that auction sold for as much as they did. I mean I'm not a costume guy anyway, but the breaking bad clothing to me other than the hazmat suits is just so "regular". Probably because I'm from Albuquerque and see people wearing Jesse's type of clothing multiple times a day. Looks like some of you guys got some great looking pieces, just not my kind of thing I guess.
This couldn't be more true. On our trip to ABQ back in February it was so amazing how truly real that city felt to the show. One night we went to the Dog House and a girl walked in and she really WAS Jesse. Dressed just like him but just a person there. So your statement just makes total sense!

THIS IS EVERYTHING! This was what was so fun for me. We had this huge undertaking of ID'ing every piece we had. But it allowed me to get to watch these episodes so many times and each time I found something new and discovered that a piece was in yet another scene or was able to screen match them, etc. But more than that, once we had everything identified we broke it down and organized all the pieces by character and by episode and by time in each episode. I organized each piece on a wardrobe rack this way and what amazed me is you could see the transformation of both Walt and Jesse by the color and style. To me, these pieces told the story of Breaking Bad. I loved nothing more than knowing this shirt and vest was worn the first time you see Jesse standing next to Walt when he is Heisenberg. Every piece just made the story really come alive for me. And getting to take a number of them to ABQ and wear them where they were worn by Walt and Jesse was just so much fun!! Trust me, put these on, enjoy them because I most certainly did! You won't ruin them. I kept every piece that I have because for me, they told the most important parts of the story or I just visually loved them and couldn't bear parting with them. I can tell you I have goosebumps writing all of this because I just loved this show, I loved these pieces, and I loved the journey they brought me on and I love knowing all of you will get to enjoy them too! And I must admit, I once made a pile on my bed of wardrobe and just laid on it, much like Huell and Kuby on Walt's money LOL.

Yes totally agreed, I mange some people in Albuquerque and used to visit there on the regular. I've seen quite a bit of that when I went which was another reason I loved the show so much with friends living in the ABQ.

I really do love the food there now as well, which is funny as the first times I went there it made me sick. They have some of the spiciest food around in ABQ/NM. I was so sick of spicy food I figured I'd get a quarter pounder from McDonalds and what do you know? it had a big green chile pepper in it....haha now after spending so much time there I love spicy food. I'm planning on taking my family there soon as we just moved to the SW area and I'd like to expose them to the food.

I have another story more in line with the ABQ culture - we went to a few bars in nob hill there after work before and one time a guy brought us shots of absinthe... that was a crazy time. ABQ is pretty special, it's so nice that they shot this show there so we can all enjoy the local flavor of it while watching BB.

Still in my search for Walter White's glasses and I came across these. And I'm not surprised that last talk over what Walter's glasses may be (which I somehow completely overlooked) resulted in pure Hilco models. Well, this one is too. Different model than the ones posted before but I think this may be it.

https://www.coolframes.com/glasses/hilco-eyewear/sg302-mens-safety-goggles-protection-eyewear.html

At this point I'm 75% convinced that Hilco is the brand of Walter's glasses. Looked through many safety/side shield frames over multiple sites and only Hilco glasses seem to have a side shield attachment remotely similar to what we're looking for. It really sucks that all of these glasses websites have crappy stock images that don't show the glasses well enough but coolframes, while even their photos still are not as good as I'd like them to be, still show them better than the rest.

As for this model, I know it looks off due to looking rectangular and small, but the model does come in 54x36mm which is almost insignificantly smaller than the Republica Montreal glasses Walter also wears yet look fine on him size-wise. Would anyone here know how big Bryan Cranston's head is? Anyway, here's why I'm 75% convinced this model is it. It comes in bronze, like Walter's, and even pewter. (Could the photo Squidman posted of a screenused pair on pg54 be the pewter version?)

3 things that look like the best match yet. The rectangle area and the rest of the arm is even in thickness unlike the other models previously posted. That just means that it has the correct non-spring hinge. Very few Hilco frames make use of that hinge and of the fewer models that look like Walter's, only this one has the right hinge and a side shield wire. Also, antique bronze is not the color of Walter White's glasses either. The photo I linked to above shows the glasses color very well and coolframes has Hilco frames in antique bronze where you can see how different the color looks from Walter's.

I've been thinking about what Wray said. I wish he was able to disclose at least one bit more of information so we can at least know when the frame was changed if true because you can look at the Hilco website predating Breaking Bad via archive and all of the models still look the same in their product catalogues as they do on stock images. Even the SG302 (which I think is the best match so far) looks the same as the stock photo in 2007. This is why I think that maybe it is just the stock photos that suck and I'm hoping this is the right model despite looking off.

The remaining 25% that leaves me unconvinced would be because from stock photos alone which is all that is unfortunately available, I can't see if the wire is a circular loop. If that is the way they are on all Hilco glasses, then maybe it isn't Hilco after all and we're back at square one.

So. I think I've found the best photo I could of these glasses. Imo, from this angle they look a lot better in shape and not as rectangular as the other photo.

I think those are super close! The only thing that looks slightly off is the angle of roundness (Is that a word?) on the inner side of the frame where the nose pads attach.

They're off overall, I'm afraid. Several collectors have picked these up. The eye is too square, on both the inside and outside edges - look at the curve where Walt's meets the hinge - and too shallow top to bottom. It's a smaller lens in general.

The propmaster was on record saying that they were vintage (80s) and that they only had a few pairs for the production. Was Hilco around back then?

Yes. I noticed they're off in the bigger photo. I just wanted to believe. lol Really. I did.
Of what has been available in the last 10 years from that brand, it is the closest looking pair. Closest in that they have the right hinge, part of the arm doesn't have a cavity for the shield wire, the arms themselves are plain and don't have a design on the outside like a lot of them do, they come in both bronze and pewter, and the nose pad attachment is correct, too. I was just hoping it really was just angles because I've looked for photos of the actual product and found zero.

So the prop master has said that, huh? Well...damn. Yes, Hilco has been around since before the 80s but if the screen used pair really are vintage, I really am just going to give up on searching for them right now. Maybe focus on 'frankensteining' a pair. Hilco has several models that make it possible to create a 90% accurate pair from several pairs. Is it fair to leave the remaining 10% for inaccurate colors? :D

Vec,

You realize those are just replicas and that is not the original maker, right?

Well I guess not. I noticed one of their others looked a bit off but that one looks like the real thing. Dang I wonder if the original was custom made, as this was the closest I've found and if it's a replica then I don't know what to think the original was besides custom. Dang the search continues.

Haven't made anything in a while so I thought I'd share this.

This is my replica of the front page of one of Walt's Albuquerque Journals that reported on the plane crash. I digitally recreated the full cover in high definition from photos of the screen-used prop to maintain accuracy, so there's a whole lower portion to it that isn't visible on screen in the episode but is still accurate to the production of the show. I haven't printed it yet and am really not sure where to go to get such a large print done on newsprint (the broadsheet size is 11.5" x 21.5", the size of real Albuquerque Journals). Would anyone who has printed prop newspapers be able to offer help?

And as usual, if anyone would like my file in high resolution, please PM me your email address.

Also, does anyone know the best tool to use to carefully cut cracks into the plate to match the screen-used prop?

DgpsR21.jpg

I have the plate and I've got the crack lines drawn out that I can use as guides, but I'm not sure what to use to cut the plate into pieces without it snapping into random chunks. I want to keep the shapes as accurate as possible. Would a tile cutter tool be good for this?

Maybe just using a band saw could work well. Just rough it out really slowly then take little notches out and finish with the dremel. Thats my guess anyway

I couldn't find it posted here, but is probably known by everyone. The knife that tuco uses to crush and hold up the "meth" is a Muela Magnum 19a. It isn't the cheapest thing to buy but in my opinion it is definitely a must have! That brings on the next question, what can I use that looks like the "meth" in the picture below. Nothing I can find is as large and has that Jaggered look to it. Does anyone know what they used on the show?
