Something I'm working on. It's my first project. I can give more details if anyone is interested in what I've done so far.

Love the bowcaster. One of my all time favorite pics..

Good luck with the build. :thumbsup

Re: Bowcaster from scratch

Looking great!

What is the total length of the bowcaster? I'd started one and guestimated. Got bored and tossed it. But your build might prompt me back to the garage.

Ted.

Re: Bowcaster from scratch

Fantabulous! One thing I never understood about this weapon, though: why the bow?

Re: Bowcaster from scratch

27.5 inches in length, 1.5 thick.

No more pics, but I applied some filler for the larger gouges I made with the rasps. It's ready for another sanding. Once I lay out the knobs on the aluminum sheet cut-out, I'll router out a spot for it on the stock. The knobs not on mail order, I'll likely model in clay and cast in resin.

While waiting on a few mail order knobs I'm looking for some "Spaldeen" high bounce balls locally. I was just trying to avoid shipping costs through online ordering.

Edit: The aluminum prod turned out stronger than I thought. Good news.

The sight and barrel are next I think.

EDIT: Didn't like the result, so I took it apart and I'm starting over with the barrel/scope mount.

Back from vacation and back to working on this beast.

Primed:

This is the point where all the minor blemishes pop out from nowhere :cry

ok, that piece, how does it go from white and rough to black and smooth - what is that process?

Three coats of primer (400 grit sanding between coat) and two passes with satin black spray paint.
I also epoxied the plastic cone in place and added the plexi glass sight with a photoshop'd reticle inside.

EDIT: Got the Spaldeen balls. Very disappointed. It's just a racket ball, not what I was anticipating. I'm looking for alternatives.

Re: Bowcaster from scratch

Those are the big pink rubber balls from way back when.

Pinky Hi-Bounce made by Ja-Ru Inc. These are solid, not hollow.

I got mine at Walgreens a couple of years ago. They sold with the summer toys. I tried to order a couple of cases for you guys last year, but they quit selling them.

Try to think of places that carry punch balloons, toy money and other cheap junk toys.

Thanks!

Added knobs:

The knobs above the trigger may need to move down but I keep knocking them with my hand when holding the grip, so I thought it would be better to move them up, rather than risk breaking it off later. We'll see.

Also, my scale may be off by 1/4", but I'm too far in to worry about that now. Maybe next time.
