Borderlands 2 Zero Costume

Hey guys, I'm new to RPF and the whole making costumes/props things, so I'm asking for a small favor. I really want to do this costume of Zer0 for a future convention in 2013, and decided to start early so I can actually finish. Do you guys know what materials I can use to make the costume, and how to shape them and stuff? Sending links to threads I can't find would be nice too. I also really want to find a way to put the 0 on the mask, and would like to know if I can use plexi-glass or something like it for the surface. Thanks for any answers, and I'll see you guys around!:)

Sorry for the double post but I just thought of another reference:

What are your strengths? Can you sculpt? Sew etc? Take the costume bit by bit. What do you want to start on first? Give us a place to start and we can point you in a direction :)

Hey man - I am very heavily leaning toward making myself a Salvador (gunzerker) for '13 Dragon-Con, so I will send positive thoughts your way. BL2 is just fantastic.

For Zer0, I think a good place to start is a really fitted jumpsuit or set of riding leathers - his armor seems to be more flexible and less plated, so once you get something fitted to your body you can then start layering on the visual stuff. What may take you the longest is the helmet, but if you get that right, the rest can be a little off and nobody will be any the wiser =0) See any and all helmet threads for various methods. Plus, somebody is bound to come up with a pepakura file for it eventually if you think that seems like a route you're willing to explore.

As far as skills go, I don't have very many. I can probably scrap together some stuff with my friends, and I wanna start on the suit before I do the helmet. Also, as far as the helmet goes, is there anything I can do to project a 0 from out of it?

You can cut the zero out of 1/4" red acrylic and then mount it to your helmet with clear acrylic tabs or rods that you cut yourself. If you use the Pepakura/Bondo route to make your helmet, I believe slots or holes your make in the helmet will be sturdy enough to hold the acrylic zero in place. It might look a bit silly from the side, but from the front, it will give the illusion of a floating zero.

You know, that helmet reminds me of the daft punk helmet, maybe look at a few of those, you could maybe even modify one to work. good luck! love the game

That armor has foam written all over it. Should be fairly simple. The Helmet would be the only thing I would worry about.

I'd say foam for the armor as well, unless you have access to a vacformer. Plenty of time to work out the materials if you're shooting for 2013. The sword screams EL wire, possibly LEDs if you're budgeting. Dunno if this will help you but here's a link to a possible way to make the zero with edge-lit acrylic. Mounting might be another story though. This will be a great build, stick with it!

Working on the same thing myself. The helmet seem to be the main focus of my attention at the moment, I have found a lot of useful tips looking at similar Tron and Halo helmet builds. A few notable sites would be Volpin Props and Artfunk Prop's Flickr page. For my build I am going to try and do it in two pieces, the visor and then the rest of the helmet. That would allow for vacuum forming of the visor (see youtube link). I'll also attach the profile and front view of Zero's helmet I mocked up in photoshop for anyone else to use if they want. Good luck!

I'm planning on making a full Zero suit too, was thinking starting with a wetsuit as a base and then adding details and armor, to make it true to the pics, Zero only has 3 fingers and a thumb, so was thinking of a custom glove that takes my pinky and ring together in one finger.

Will be keeping an eye on this Thread, and hopefully starting on my build soon :)

Hi
I'm also making a Zero suit, I've just joined RPF and am pretty new to cosplay etc.
I've done a lot of research and broken the process down into.

In all honesty I don't think I have enough time to complete a sword, so I will be making this after my deadline, Probably Using a thin pvc pipe for stability, thick foam boards and defo ging to go with EL wire on that, I've Already made a Sniper rifle so won't be going empty handed :)
-Armour
I've bought a pair of biking trousers, the material is fairly stretchy and it already has pads in the knee, calf and buttock are which look suitable, I've also bought a tight top 95% cotton 5% elastic, Then I will use thin foam sheets for the chest and abdomen protection, and shoulder pads, I have some elbow pads from my old biker jacket with I'll add thick foam too to create some elbow spikes
-Helmet
To be honest I think making a projection or having a floating sheet in front of me will be too complex/expensive/time consuming and annoying once its in place, So I'm leaving that out.
I'm using thick foam board to shape the helmet from reference pictures, I'm waiting to for emails from a couple of companies concerning the curved visor, if this turns out to be a, too expensive or b, too time costly I will go to plan b which is using a thick plastic sheet and tint it myself.
I have also made a full size Claptrap to accomany me :)
I have pics of my Sniper Rifle and Claptrap if anyone is interested
Happy Vault Hunting :)

Anybody now what is best to glue foamies onto material? was thinking of a silcone based glue so it would still have some movement ....
Cheers :)
