Boba Fett Color Scheme Moebius Battlestar Galactica Viper Mk II

Finally got around to building this thing I bought a couple years ago. Kind of bored with the same old white and red paint jobs (although those look really nice!) and am trying to make a semi-bare metal version. Started with an Alclad black gloss base, and then added Alclad white aluminum and magnesium. Airbrushed some transparent smoke, violet, and sepia around the thrusters for a hot metal look. The goal is to give it light coats of other colors I have in mind - we’ll see what happens. I will say that, when I masked off an area to paint the leading edge of the wings it tore up some of the aluminum paint. Grrr. That didn’t happen last time when I airbrushes Alclad. Going to spray the whole thing with some Future polish and then paint on top of that. Always something to learn I tell ya.

Nice!

I just got the same kit, however I'm going to do mine in the TOS BSG Viper finish. Like you I'm not keen on the red and white color scheme.

Sooo, as I was looking through a book I recently purchased, “Sculpting a Galaxy” by Lorne Peterson, I got inspired by Boba Fett’s Slave I color scheme and applied it to my Viper. If any of you model sci-fi, especially Star Wars, I can‘t recommend this book enough! There are so many closeup shots of studio models in all their glorious detail - it’s beautiful!

At any rate, here’s my finished Viper, with weathered paint scraped off down to the Alclad white aluminum base. The cockpit window has been sprayed with a light coat of Alclad Pale Burnt Metal to simulate the gold shielding astronauts use on visors. I thought it would be a nice touch rather than a crystal clear window.

I’m always wanting to learn new things so if any of you have suggestions or tips, feel free to offer any positive criticism.

Brilliant paintjob which really lends itself well to the ship design. Your weathering skills are fantastic. Great work.

Thank you! That means a lot. I prefer to chip away at layers of paint (like what would happen in real life) on something this scale. It feels like cheating if I just use a silver pencil or dry brush.
