BluRay/DVD fans: Love me some Spacesavers

Having more than 500 blurays/dvds does create a space problem. I have 2 large shelves side-by-side but thank god for space savers. anyone else use these.

I really wish companies would put all dvds in slimcases. I have a set that came with all 6 discs in 3 slim cases and it's great. For me it's my videogame shelves, normal dvd and even the ps3 cases take up so much space that you don't need to be wasting.

One day it will all be on hard drives. That will save space. Blurays will be like 8-tracks. Just click and watch. No need to get insert a disc.

That's the day i give up on entertainment. I'm not paying for something i can't hold in my hand and that can vanish with really bad solar storm or hardware failure.

my problem with that is so many companies wish they could do a pay-to-watch system, where you will never own your own media.

I'd love to convert some of my "box set" blu rays that came in cardboard books rather than cases to either a Blu Ray slimline (preferred) or a BR multi-disc case. The thing that prevents that is the cover - I know there is a ton of high res alternate artwork out there for these case - but, just how do you get a real, quality print? My inkjet is nice, but not that nice... and really don't expect Kinko's or someplace with a nice inkjet to allow something like that to be printed.

I too, prefer an actual physical medium - like a CD or Blu Ray (in fact bought one of each today). My new 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee didn't come with a a CD player - that's still unfathomable to me. I have a USB, SD, line in or blue tooth options -- but no CD. The world is changing.

i have a printer at home but refuse to use it for covers, those damn color cartridges are damn expensive! I take my thumb drive to office max and print them out on picture paper.

That's not ink, it's unicorn blood that's why it's so expensive. I got a printer that takes only 2 carts instead of 4 like i used to and it's still nearly 50.00 for the black and color. I never had any luck getting them to print out to the right size, i was doing it for games that either had no art or the cases were a mess.

:lol Ditto! :lol

A friend of mine was crying because netflix took one of the movies he wanted to watch off.

Of course I had it on DVD and told him to come over with a pizza and I will put it on! :D

Any dvd/blu-ray I have that is over two movies I make my own cases. USPlastics sells dvd cases that hold many different quantities of discs. I usually buy several of each qty size and whenever I need to downsize my multiple movies I just make my own case. Yeah, the ink is expensive, but I have probably over 1000 movies so shelf space is limited...so I really don't have a choice I guess. I usually go to somewhere like SAMSCLUB and buy my ink cartridges in bulk....helps a little..

But it sure saves on space. Thinking about stuff like Star Wars, I have over maybe 50 discs that are SW related. That in itself would take an entire shelf. But if I can get them into five 10disc cases it cuts down three or four feet on the bookshelves.

I'm not going to put my movies in a "cd book"...That is unacceptable.

What are some good sources for getting custom covers? Some of these studio photoshopped covers are atrocious, and need replacing.

I bookmared the versapak case link, i need those for some of my games that have multiple discs and got mangled.

It's a good idea, and I've considered it for some of the more massive box sets I have. But at the same time, I wouldn't throw away the original boxes (because I never throw away original packaging) With that coming into consideration, I would have to find space to store the original cases, which will waste space somewhere else. 1st world problems...

I can understand how space can be an issue, but to me, the more media you have, the more you should show off. That's why I went down to Target, bought two of those cheap bookshelves, and made one bookshelf with double the amount of shelves. It holds all my DVDs just fine. My Blu-Rays sit in my entertainment center, and my VHS tapes are currently in a couple of boxes.

Do you just toss all of the original stuff?

It was hard at first. I tried saving all the original cases and inserts at first, but then I was just stuck with the same proplem--no space. So yes, I threw the original stuff away. I've been making my own cases for years and now it doesn't bother me in the least to throw away the original cases and covers.

It's tuff--but ya just gotta learn to let go.....:(

And as for the bookcase issue, I'm with you, I currently have 4 of those "Target-type bookcases" that I have added shelves to and they are all full. Number 4 has about a foot of space left on the last bottom shelf. If I had not been condensing my cases I would probably be on bookshelf 10 or 11 by now......and I don't have room for that....

Thank you for those links. I've been meaning to do something like this for awhile now. Like stated before, throwing away the original stuff with it is going to be hard, but considering that I would rather show off props than a DVD case should make it easier. I need to go through my games as well. Some of them have the preorder super cool guy boxes, but usually don't have anything I would want to keep. I'll probably throw them up on here and see if anyone wants them. I NEVER return or trade in a game unless it is garbage. I have all of my ps2 and GameCube games still. Gameboy games too. Same with my movies. Me and my wife just went though all of our DVDs and blurays the other night to repack. Through out a bunch that we didn't want. It was hard but oh well. Gotta make space!

When I first started I did indeed spend a seeming fortune on ink cartridges and glossy photo paper. It took me several months to a year to get all of them done. But it was just a project I consigned myself to do. After it was all said and done I was really happy with it. Really learned a lot in MS paint (and later Photoshop) that I would've never learned if I hadn't taken on the task.

These days I only have to make a new case every now and then, so costwise it barely affects me now.
