Blade Runner - Street Cop Costume WIP

The street cop costume from Blade Runner has always been my favorite since those wild and crazy times
of getting a VCR and playing and rewinding the few seconds at the start of the movie you actualy see one.

With the help of the Final Cut DVD`s and other peoples dedicated research, decided to put a replica of this
very sinister costume together.

The main "found" part of the costume is a vintage Sinisalo MX chest protecter. The shoulder pads are used in
the headpiece and sit under the hat. The metal badges are fan made by a member here, eltee and i had the
patches made after some extensive feedback on propsummit. I made the headpiece from a vintage postal workers
hat that i had covered in a very thin leather type fabric. The police accessories came from ebay as did the
vintage casio calculators used in the gauntlets.

Im at the stage now where all that remains is a few more minor accessories and to have the clothing made.
There is some fairly intricate stitching involved and i am really desperate for any pictures at all
members here may have of the street cop uniforms I only have a couple of pictures that show most of the
costume so anything you can post will be a huge help.

This looks great so far. What type of pistol do you think you'll use?

Thanks BF.
The street cops in the move used rubber versions of Deckards blaster and most were completely black, some however had carved wooden grips. I think
the black version is the way to go except i will do it in a full gloss using auto paint.
The bottom blaster is all metal and the one above is a resin number, i have an extra, unfinished resin kit and that will live with the costume.

hey MW...GREAT idea for a costume!!
keep the pics coming :)

nice resin blaster! is that a rick ross? i've been looking for a high quality pkd resin kit to make a stunt blaster outta :)

I have been slowly picking up parts for my costume too. You are way ahead of me at this point and it is making me want to get back to searching on this and see if I can get the sewn pads, and accessories made up. I am beginning to settle for close enough for some of the parts though. I may just paint up my sinisalo instead of making a new vest. keep up the good work mate.

Yes, Deckard's blaster with "standard issue" grips would look great for a patrolman.

Nice work! I can't do Blu-Ray grabs, but have you watched the workprint? I seem to have noticed some extra shots of the police. Might be helpful.

Thanks very much all.

Bad Wolf, from what ive learned, the blaster is not an original Rick Ross.

Hope you can get your remaining parts together Andy, it was your extensive posts on the subject that inspiered me.
The workprint and the other discs in the Final cut were a gold mine when getting the patches made MFP 2020, didnt give up a good overall shot though.
Its amazing how often, unseen on-set stills turn up from Blade Runner and i guess thats what im hoping to come across

I was just planning to carve this cod piece out from some soft wood but is there a chance it is a found item? Does anyone recognise it?

It reminds me of the oval window on the spinner. In one of the windows there is an inset with what look like electronics. I often wonder if it was meant as a panel for the cars, and then reused.

On second thought it looks too wide in comparison.

I can see where your coming from on that Andy but as you say it looks a little wide. Im tipping that whatever it is, molds were used for them,
the blasters were molds and it looks like the chest gaurds are also.

Nice work webber; it's always cool to see obscure costumes come to life.

Concerning the cod piece, it looks custom fabricated to me based on the roughness/uneveness of the sculpt. Probably something the prop guys just whipped up in a few minutes to be reused on a building or something as well.

With the chest guard they made vacuum form copies of the ones on the sinisalo armor, and even added extra to the back of the vest. I believe that the cod piece is also made from a vacuum form mold. What they used as a buck may have been a found item, but certainly doesn't have to be. I was just theorizing they may have used scraps lying around to start with. But, the production on the cars was in a different part of town anyway. I think Charles Knode also designed the cod piece into it, and I think this is pretty faithfull to his drawings IIRC.

As far as the pins, they do look very ALIEN like. I wonder if Jeff Walker had any part in making the patches and pins on this one? Though, I think he only made the post production promotional stuff. I have seen some kits for making your own cloisenet' pins that you can bake in your own oven, These should be pretty easy to make hopefully once I get the size down.

As far as pictures, I have seen some small blurry photos that showed the police uniform with the holster with stunt, and hat from either the Seattle Sci-Fi museum, or a Planet Hollywood. I would love for one of those pictures to show up in higher resolution, because I am working on the holster now.
