Blade Runner 2049

You don't say?

Apparently I have to, since your previous comment comes off as you saying that they're not, thus bringing into question if you've seen either of the films or not.

It's cool. :)

I just didn't like Prometheus.

Cool beans. It's a film that's hit or miss with peope (I thought it was pretty good). I totally get that. But like I said before, there's a lot of fans that believe BR and Alien share the same universe (as both share the same tone, feature Mega Corporations and the replicants can be seen as the prototypes to the androids seen in the Alien universe).

But then again, many of those same fans are considering The Martian as a part of the same universe, but to me, it doesn't seem to fit the style, tone or story wise. Besides, The Martian was already accepted into The Expanse book universe, so it's probably in the TV show's universe as well.

I'm confused. You thought they were going to do a Blade Runner sequel with no replicants? I mean, we all loved the first movie but to say this topic was thoroughly exhausted in a two hour movie is a little, well, closed minded. Or homerish. Either way.

I thought that PKD wrote a lot of great stuff and that the BR universe would be a great door to walk through for more.
What exactly are they going to explore now with replicants again? I get having some but what themes are there to go to?
BR took it down to the very soul of what is existence, what makes us who we are. Perhaps better than anything before
or since. At least certainly elegantly. Do we need to do another dance on that?
I only see emancipation as the next step to move the story forward. To free these slaves once and for all from servitude.
Is someone illegally making more? Looked like the Tyrell building was dark.
Deckard walked the edge of right and wrong, of determining what was human and what was not and making a final judgement
of death, and in doing so he was becoming less human and more machine like. The title fit the character. In the end
he awakens and recovers his humanity again when Batty, considered a "machine" spares his life in an act of mercy and forgiveness.
So I assume we have another cop walking the same path decades later?
All I can think is new cop, doing same job, realizes the same things, seeks out Deckard as some kind of past
legend to help him with his confusion and realizes that he has to help replicants????
I dunno, trying to see what I think make sense to come back to Blade Runner again.

Man I feel like a negative Nancy on this forum lately, but this looks like slick, overproduced nostalgia porn. Portentous. Pretentious. Pretty, but empty. Which sums up the industry circa 2017, I guess. So tired of having my nostalgia preyed upon by mercenary focus groups pretending to be film makers.

heh. Been using it for decades, on bulletin boards in the mid-90's. I'm obviously new here but not new at being a nerd lol.

Actually, you posting in this thread is quite appropriate, even more so with your name. William Gibson saw Blue Runner while working on Neuromancer, and began to worry that people would think he ripped off the environment of the story from the film, because it was like how he imagined the setting for the Sprawl.

Don't worry, you're surrounded by fellow nerds. :D

I'd agree with you,....I'm pretty anxious about Alien Covenant,.....I'm prepared to be disappointed......but I'm more hopeful with this film,....I've enjoyed the 2 recent films of Denis Villeneuve.....I think we could be in for something extraordinary

The first half of the new trailer feels authentic to the style of the original... the second half starts to fall off a bit, but it still looks awesome.

I like Deckard's reaction when to Gosling saying "I wanna ask you some questions". I don't know if it's the intent, but Deckard's reaction feels like "Are you about to Voight-Kampff me?"

I have no problem with replicants being involved in some way (as always, two and a half minutes of trailer leave a lot of film unseen). It is called Blade Runner. Blade Runners deal with replicants. If replicants weren't involved with the story in some way, there would be no Blade Runners involved (presuming Ryan is one), and calling the film Blade Runner would be misleading. The gist of my thought process.

I am so in. This is the first time in a decade I have been excited for a movie and may be the first movie I see in theaters since Sin City.
I gave the old thumbs up as soon as I saw ATARI sign and as soon as I heard the new version of the classic Blade Runner theme I know I will be buying the soundtrack already. I just got home from work but I already ripped the trailer off youtube and will probably watch it thirty times tonight.
