Blade Runner 2049

Re: Blade Runner Sequel

i thought the idea of Blade Runners was to hunt down those droids that went awol (out of contract) so to say... Roy and his crew not only went awol, they were killing humans on/off world.

Exactly - Roy and his crew were killers. Rachel wasn't a killer. The only "person" she killed was Leon - one of Roy's crew.
Her contract was as a "show-room model" for Tyrell's Nexus 6. Tyrell's dead, and the Nexus 6 program with him. Her contract's expired.
Gaff knew Deckard was running away with her, and he let them go. Bryant probably knew, too, otherwise Gaff is in a heap of trouble, and we know Gaff well enough to know he doesn't stick his neck out for anyone.
Deckard and Rachel flew away to the north and lived their remaining days together in a log cabin by a lake. The End.

Re: Blade Runner Sequel

And indeed iis it a replicant centered story again? Is this confirmed?

Re: Blade Runner Sequel

Gosling is a meh actor.
I did like him in The Big Short, but most everything else I've seen him in he seems pretty lifeless.

I'm not a big fan of his either, but I thought he was awesome in Drive.

Because replicants are flat out built stronger than humans, they need to be kept in check. After Deckard killed Zhora they told him he still had 4 to kill cuz Rachel went missing.

I guess there's a blanket law... even if you were a floor model, you go off on your own, you get Deckard failing to kill you.

Still funny that they need "the old Blade Runner..." but he's kind of terrible at killing them.

Re: Blade Runner Sequel

This is almost certainly going to be another half-hearted project like, Total Recall 2012, where the mythos serves only as a set-piece for a typical Hollywood action flick, only because I've not heard a single piece of news to make me think otherwise.

I haven't seen any compelling concept art. I haven't heard of names like Syd Mead or Ron Cobb even associated with the production. I haven't heard of anybody from the original production making any statements in excitement about this film (other than the cryptic auteur statements from Ridley Scott).

Blade Runner wasn't a story about Deckard or even about whether or not he's a replicant. It's not even about replicants. It's a parable about the future and the replicants are simply vehicles for an allegory about dehumanization. This is why the music and sound and visual design are critical to an appreciation of the movie. The stated focus on simply continuing the story of Tyrell and/or Deckard only says they don't really get (or understand) (or care) what makes the film a classic.

Re: Blade Runner Sequel

If I won that, I would show up in Deckard's complete Blade Runner outfit, I am not even joking.
I wouldn't.
Knowing Ford, I'm afraid that would weird him out.
I would rather come across as a regular guy just to entice Ford to let down his guard and simply hang out and have fun. Maybe he'll see that I'm a pretty cool person and give me his cell number. He'd invite me over to help him set up his new computer while Calista and my wife become best friends. We'd attend movie premieres together and go to the farmers market every weekend ...

(wait, what were we talking about again?)

Re: Blade Runner Sequel

Well "Arrival" has had incredibly positive reviews. I know there have been a few changes to the original novella (it sounds as if the daughters part has been rewritten, probably because Amy Adams Dr Banks is certainly a decade younger than in the story) but I am still slightly amazed that:
(a) This got made into a film because its not the kind of story that would immediately have gained studio support. In the novella the themes are complex, its past/present/future narratives are a little difficult to follow, and it is, at its very core, a profoundly moving story.
(b)That despite all that they have evidently managed to write a great screenplay and also direct and produce a film that STILL captures all those elements which works very well on the screen.Thats a small miracle in my experience.
So I still have fairly high hopes for this sequel ,particularly because of who is directing it.
Yes, I think they will struggle to find an anti hero as powerful and moving as Rutgers "Roy Batty" replicant, or anything to top his speech. Maybe getting a team together who are as brilliantly creative and visually gifted alongside Ridleys art school super fuelled direction will be a stretch BUT they have one thing they didn't have back then.
They have the original movie to reference.
And that has got to be a huge help.
Alot of people I knew when BR came out ended up hating it.Coming on the back of "Star Wars" and "Raiders" Harrisons quiet, thoughtful Deckard just didn't go down well at all with them who were expecting some crazy lazer blasting sky chases between him and the robots in the flying cars, as opposed to the beautifully shot spinner journey through the night lit city to that incredible Vangelis soundtrack.
I think a huge amount could be done with this. Lets have a little faith. And hope.

But which blaster is actually in this shot??

Dan Lanigan's hero? "Secret lost prop"? Custom made for the occasion? Commercial type?

I'm excited to see what Roger Deakins does with the cinematography in this film. That's what really set the first one apart as a noir, among other things of course.

WOOT!! awesome! maybe this one won't be so illusive to procure!

The great thing about the movie coming out in this day and age is that there is going to be market for everything related to it right out of the gate.
It my also create a resurgence in props from the original film as well and we might be able to find those things easier. Now, as a trench coat aficionado I want to see what kind of coats will be in the film and how soon retailers will start making them so I can add to my collection.

I wouldn't.

lol, My fantasy doesn't extend to the actors themselves. I would just want to walk around an actual Blade Runner set that will be immortalized on film, as a Blade Runner. Then when I'm watching the movie with friends and family and can go LOOK, I WAS THERE!!!

Never mind the gun,.....I love the whiskey glass,....(my neighbour has one,....let me drink out of it once.....£60....)
