As I previously stated...

With that being said, has anyone at SDCC asked the Hasbro reps if the item on display is one of their prototypes. Often items that are first shown are those that have been specialty hand painted prior to those being manufactured. It is also common practice for Hasbro to have their product that is photographed on the boxes to be speciality painted. Many times you will find that the level of paint detail does not match what is in the box.

I'm not saying that if this is the case, you will be disappointed but but I just think it is something to keep in mind when looking at these pre-released products.

...so unless you can get confirmation that you are looking at a production run piece (which I doubt you are) I think the any analyst of the make or finish of the helmet is a waste of time.

I've been doing Fett helmet commissions for over a decade and I'm pretty familiar with the details of the ESB helmet.
These are some observations I've made based on the initial pics on the Hasbro Pulse site. I don't intend for these to be positive or negative, just things I noticed.
I agree that for $120, the helmet looks nice.

First, it looks like the different sections of the helmet were molded in the "base" color and had the detailing applied over it.

Next, a lot of the damage detailing appears to be decals. Will this be the case with the production helmets? We'll have to wait and see.

Finally, the prototype shows evidence of having been 3D printed. But it seems likely that the production version will be injection molded.

I tend to get kinda detail obsessed when it comes to the ESB bucket, so I just found this stuff interesting.

Excellent eyes. I appreciate your attention to these details. Definitely things to consider on the final product.

Im actually very impressed with the quality/detailing to price point. Hopefully the final product is just a touch refined which i think it will be. I just hope the gimmicks buttons are hidden well.

The gimmick button is on the side of where the rangefinder pivots. You can tell because it sticks out too far. It’s decently hidden

Here is a good image showing the scan verses the actual helmet produced. You can see where they smoothed the brow and made the eye slot taller for better vision. They lost alot of the wonkyness of the original which is no surprise for a mass produced role play item.

Preordered. This is a no brainer for me. Ever since they came out with the Stormtrooper helmet, I've thought "if they did a Boba Fett as accurate as this, and at the same price, it'd be an instabuy". And now here it is.

Same here. Preordered the Skywalker helmet too. These will be fun to upgrade and put on display.

The paint has been confirmed to be molded details with paint over. That’s why it looks like decals. I think it will be their usual machine applied paint job.

Yeah, I'm not necessarily seeing 'decal', particularly where it wraps 90 degrees around a corner. Seems like that would be a nightmare of peeling stickers if that was the approach.

"The Borden detail is actually real metal, and although the side ear caps are plastic and a little oversized to house electronics, they are removable so I’m sure die-hards may find a way to swap them for aluminum fan-made parts. The rangefinder lowers, and the 2 LED’s on top are functional. Inside the rangefinder, there is a heads up display (like a targeting computer) so when wearing the helmet you can flip it down and look through the target, or you can remove a sliding plate on top to the rangefinder and see right through it like a scope. The Helmet on display was a paint master, not final product but Instead of adding electronic sound effects or hokey lines of dialog they chose to axe those options and put the budget towards the paint job to make it as accurate as possible."

I have been making and selling my Fett helmet liner for two years. The year before that was spent designing and prototyping. For lack of a 3d printer, I scratch built and kit bashed my way to the final product pictured in the middle.

My opinion on this is likely riddled with bias, but I immediately recognize my work in that Hasbro interior. Of course it's been digitally rendered, stylized and 3D printed to accommodate their manufacturing process.

The question I have to ask myself is whether or not those changes are enough to keep me from feeling ripped off.

I would treat it as a badge of honor if the official Hasbro helmet used your design as a jumping off point to make theirs. It means you were on the money with your look and they just tweeked it to meet their needs. Yours will always have a place in fan made helmets.

Huh, wasn´t there a guy who´s hobby artwork was used on a toy package a few years ago? Similar case, maybe? The only "iffy" angle I see here is that you "sold" the interior in connection to a prop that you don´t have the intellectual property rights for. I do see potential for a stern talk between Disney and Hasbro if this comes to the attention of the general public. The similarities are way too grave, I dare say. If the Whiteshadow - design really is his design, even the design of the padding, I say that it definitely is your design and your design only. An intergalactic bounty hunter helmet interior.

Believe me, I wish I could see it that way. Then this experience would actually be enjoyable.
If I'd been approached about them including my design beforehand, I would have agreed to let them use it. As it stands, my customers see the hasbro pic and immediately recognize my work. Everyone else assumes hasbro used the design from Riddell.

You must see it really as a high end toy and not as an accurate propreplica.And from this point these helmets are a no-brainer.
I will buy one of these Hasbrohelmets..but also need te EFX because its a lot more accurate.

You mention customers upthread - did you approach Lucasfilm about using their design for the exterior, and did they agree to let you use it? Your helmet is awesome, but it seems to me the pot is calling the kettle black here.

That's my take on this. I would be just as upset if it happened to me. But Lucasfilm owns all the rights and likeness of the character. They would never need your permission for it. If you tried to reach out to them accusing them of ripping you off, worse case scenario is you may get a cease and desist if you're still making helmets. Disney has been very lenient about custom props based on their licensed properties but they can do whatever they want in a case like this.
