Bigger Biceps and legs

Good afternoon,

I am on my way to making a decent wolverine costume, from the comic books, yellow and blue. I am not skilled enough to make retractable claws, but I think that the realm of latex muscles are in my skill set. I have never done it before, but need bigger biceps, and legs. The leg muscles will be under the pants, but the biceps will not.

Can someone give a noob step by step, easy guide to making decent looking biceps out of latex? The only experience I have is watching Face Off.

Thank you

I always thought on how I would do it, and I think if I didn't have much time, I would probably make the arms with trimmed foam and rubber latex. It's cheap and you get some skin resemblance. You won't have to show much if your wearing classic long wolvie gloves.
as for legs I would do the same.

I did this with the costume in my avatar (Lizardman Soul Calibur), and learned a lot about how to do it better next time (King from Tekken).

You pretty much it the same way people make Predator suits, or Ninja Turtles costumes.
Here are some examples.

Using a dummy and putting a spandex suit on it or a stretchy under armor. Use spray glue/ adhesive spray, and stick it to the suit.

Then you carve the shapes into the upholstery foam. Make sure you don't use foam that is too thick. An inch thick should be enough. Most people cut the foam with the electric turkey carver. When you get the the finer details you use smaller scissors to make sure everything is round. Make sure you use an anatomy book to make sure everything looks the way it should.

After you are done carving, you paint 3 layers of liquid latex onto the foam.

I would airbrush the skin to make it look real, and maybe add some hair to the forearms.

Just wanted to add my 2 cents. Instead of painting latex directly onto the foam, here is what I used to use for muscles etc:

Use spray adhesive over the foam first. Then tear pieces of paper towel without a pattern onto the glued foam. Using shop towel brand will make a nice thick skin which helps with the rough parts of the cut foam. You can even place a section of the paper towel down and pull it to make a stretched skin effect. Then paint your latex over the paper towels. It will take less layers of latex this way as well. Using a spandex cloth over that becomes unneccessary.

That is a very good method DethBecomesYou. I am going to give that a try with my next project. Thank you for sharing that knowledge with us.:thumbsup
