Big Muscly Character Base for Hulk/Thanos/The Thing

Just a few pictures of my progress
i also threw in my winter soldier bicep piece for comparison as I used the same file only i scaled it up by 20%
Straight after I took the first picture I realized the green parts were around the wrong way
It's all fixed now
i will try to get started on the forearms soon

This is the mask ill be using for the hulk
avengers_hulk_dg43724mor.jpg
although the one that I bought off eBay was a little bit warped haha

I only payed about 20 dollars for it so I'm not complaining
it does the job well enough

For a full arm from Classic Iron Man I would recommend using the paper version template for your foam, because in the JFcustom foam version, there's a gap at the elbow.

Somehow the glove and elbow from the paper version were fused in a manner that leaves the elbow exposed. If you use the paper version,my suggestion would be to tuck in the glove edge that sticks out,and add the elbow piece to complete your arm and fill up the the gap.

Just my two cents.Good luck with your build!

Thanks for the advice .. although i have already built the arms using the jfcustom files, so its a bit late for me
in my opinion the arms seem fine and do the job perfectly
the gap at the elbow i believe, is so the wearer can move their arms while in the suit as it can become quite tricky to bend the elbow
in my case, the arms will all be covered in material and you wont be able to see the gaps anyway
as for the glove edge, i trimmed down the forearm a bit so the thickness of the wrist matched where my store bought hulk gloves will attach
thank you for concern anyway
I always like feedback!

Just a quick update
I recently finished one of the shins
I had a bit of a setback with my glue gun as it decided to break just as I started the second one
Hopefully over this weekend I can buy another glue gun with some sticks so I can finish off the shins and start on the thighs
i left off the two rectangle pieces for the ankle so it would be easier to walk in ( they made the shin too tall for my liking)
the shins are also scaled up 20% just like the arm pieces
This build made me start to think about the feet so now I have a slight idea of what to do
also I'd like some feedback about my suit so feel free to comment!
thanks everyone

I agree on this armour being a good muscle suit/basis for other costumes. As opposed to the other Iron Man suits, the muscle groups of this one are quite organic (looking).
I wonder though if you can make the armour as big as you had intended for your big builds, since the length also increases when you increase the width, thus compromising the proper fit/joints etc.?

so far its looking pretty bulky
keep in mind i have been trimming the ends off the pieces to make them appear a lot more squashed and muscly (as well as to fit on my limbs)
on the shin, i made it about four centimeters(roughly) shorter as it was too long
if i didn't cut it off, i wouldn't be able to bend my legs as i walk
i know that i'll definitely have to trim down most of the remaining pieces to keep in proportion with my body
the forearms i built are still long, but i am planning on doing a pulley operated hand so i can keep the length of the arms
i'm still not sure if i should scale up the chest by 20%, like i have been for all my other pieces, or by maybe 25 or 30% just to keep the suit nice and bulky
i don't want to make him look too thin
i'm planning on adding the muscles and such on the skin after im done building so maybe that will help increase the size
only time will tell i guess, haha

if or when i get around to doing the juggernaut (probably next year around the time x men apocalypse comes out)
i don't want to do the generic comic version everyone seems to be doing but i also don't want to do the terrible x-men last stand version
i was looking at concept art for days of future past when i came across a scrapped design for juggernaut
Juggernaut-X-Men-Days-of-Future-Past-2-2-600x967.jpg
i really like this interpretation of the character and i reckon it would be fun to build

also i still haven't had time to buy some more glue
i have begun to seal the arms and start on the feet
i'll try to upload some pictures in the next post

NEW UPDATE!
I bought some more glue sticks and finally stuck together the second shin
I also threw together one of the feet to see if it would work the way I want it to
It seems ok for now but I think I can improve the shape and make it look more natural
I used mattress foam that I got from my first attempt at a hulk suit
I think it may be a bit to lightweight and not as durable as I would've hoped
I may take it apart and start again
im currently cutting out the pieces for the thighs so ill probably post some pictures tomorrow or on saturday
im going to do the cod plate after the thighs and then the chest
Thanks guys

Another update! (Not sure if anyone is still watching my progress though)
I tore apart my prototype foot and started to work on it again
I traced one of my shoes onto a piece of cardboard 11 times and proceeded to cut them out
I then hot glued them one on top of the other
Then I glued the cardboard towards the back of my foam foot ( prototype base) in the middle
I took a pair of cheap crocs ( a slip on foam sandal) and stuck them on top of the cardboard platform
I then sprayed some expanding foam over the foot
The can of foam only got me one foot so I have to buy another can ( much to my wallets dismay)
Once the feet are dry ill start to carve them into a nice foot shape
I think that I'll probably end up using papier mâché over the top to seal them in
i also stuck together the thigh pieces which came out pretty well
They fit in nicely with the overall shape and proportions of the body
I should be finishing up the base and begining to start on the skins over the next 2-3 weeks
So If there are any questions about the suit feel free to leave a comment
I enjoy feedback!
thanks guys

Love the Croc idea. Just a comment on the spray foam. Having an extensive background in the building industry i can tell you that the foam will leave large voids and be prone to crumbling under any type of flexing. You mention using paper mache to seal it in? i would be very interested to see if this works. Keep up the great progress.

Thanks for the information!
I'm not too worried about gaps and holes too much as they will eventually end up covered
if I find a huge hole I might just fill it up with some wads of paper mâché or some masking tape
im not sure if it will work as I only have mid to basic knowledge on building and stuff
This is my first time using expanding foam so any advice or feedback is greatly appreciated
im looking forward to seeing how your suit comes out hapslappy!

UPDATE!
I have now shaped one of the feet to a more natural shape
It didn't come out too bad
However it is covered in holes and dents
I'm not too worried at the moment as I have a plan to fill them in with either paper mâché or some left over spray foam for my second foot
I will also have to add a strip of foam around the heel to cover up my ankle and stop my foot from slipping out the back
this pair of feet can be used for a lot of different characters in the future although I am going to have to make different feet for characters such as the lizard who has claws and thanos who wears shoes
Other than the foot that's all for the moment
I did recently buy some foam mats but they aren't the same density or texture as the mats I've been using
im not to sure if I should build the cod plate out of this foam for better flexibility and comfort
I know that I'll probably use it for thanos' armour later this year
Also the hands are something I've been thinking about
I have a pair of store bought hulk gloves that I was thinking of using but I have been playing around with the idea of making my own
That way I can easily skin them and be able to move the fingers
It's all just ideas at the moment and I need to get back to building the base before I start thinking too much into the skins
thanks guys!
