Best way to remove texture from foam mat?

I'm making some gun props with foam mats and I need to layer them, so I want both sides to be smooth. I'm trying to think of the best way to sand of the "carbon fiber" pattern on the foam mat, and I'm not sure what my best options are. I have access to a full woodshop, so as of right now my ideas are: use a palm sander, use the planer, or use the large face sander. What have you guys found works best?

Why could you not just glue the texture sides to each other, hidden on the inside?

I typically find that gluing the textured sides together creates a gap in material that is often hard to fix. the best method I have found is to use a bandsaw (carefully)

Yeah, that is a good point. I think the best plan is to bond the smooth sides to make the thickness and the off the texture off the outside.
