Bespin Luke?

After James Kenobi 1138, graciously posted some scans of the new making of ESB book, I noticed Luke's high-waisted pants with suspenders....

...are these type of pants a particular preexisting style, or done specifically for the purpose of maintaining the look of the costume during the physical stunts?
